Mari-rae, you need to tell me exactly what type of computer and operating system you are running. Are you on Windows and if so, which version? Are you on a Mac? Linux? UNIX?

Hi Ændr! Sorry to have been so rude in not answering you. I didn't see the posting until now. I am able to do the Æ by selecting it from the character map, then copying it. Then when I need it I paste it. Typing 0198 didn't do it. Thanks for telling me where to find it!

It should do - are you sure that numlock is on, you are holding down the alt key the whole time and you are typing using the numeric keypad not the numbers at the top of the letters?

Of course, you could just highlight, copy and paste it from a forum entry. Like this:

Personally, I often have a Word document open for composing and thinking onto, which I then highlight and paste into a forum when ready. You could do that.

Not noticably, no. Only if I do this at work, when its all much slower anyway, and I shouldn't be on h2g2. I like to keep it open if I am researching so that I can copy and paste anything of interest I find in order to edit later. Obviously I bookmark, but sometime I only want snippets.
