I caught you in the who's online list (22:41 2000-10-21) and thought I'd say hello.

"Hello"

There that feels better now smiley - smiley

Boo to you too! I was online for ages and ages but didn't post. Just reading backlog. Lots to catch up on. London meet in December sounds good, but I can't find a date suggested anywhere. Know any more about it?
I'll be easy to catch again. I have a very natty little laptop. Place I work now is very much in the IT backwoods, (although they don't thinks so). Staff can have laptops, and think this is a "good idea" but haven't a clue what to do next. So they carry huge unopened rucksacks around, saying "look, I've got my laptop".
I just have the small carry case in work, and actually use the thing! I was constructing a spreadsheet for exam results (ie with autosum to work out the mean etc). A small crowd gathered and marvelled at the sight.
I have offered to assist with staff training. First person I helped had never used a floppy disc, despite having had a PC since last December.
How are things with you? All well I hope? Progress? (I can get email too now. smiley - smiley)

I did wonder if you saw the extra conversation on your page, I know I miss them sometimes smiley - smiley

So not only do you teach the pupils, you've to teach the staff as well.

Things are going OK here. I've now got a car and am doing some driving of it as I need as much practice as possible. Wondering when I should try moving jobs and if I could get anywhere.

Take a deep breath and go for it! It's what I did. It's not been easy, but I'd have always wondered "what if...." At least this way I know. Things seem to be falling into place, although I still have days when I want my old job back.

It's how I ended up in London!
I'll probably look somewhat more seriously towards the end of the year as I'll have been around this place for 12 months then.

Time to go home now. I've been playing installing Linux on an old Mac I found at work (having bought memory, hard disk first). Still it's a fun thing to do smiley - smiley

12 months is a good time to look around. Any less than that looks bad on your CV (according to people who know these things - ie not me, cos I've never had one).
Installing Linux = fun. Hmmmm. You need to get out more smiley - winkeye The London meet is November 25th.
I'm posing a tentative maybe at the moment, life being what it is, and won't stay to the bitter end, but if I make it I'll be there longer then last time I hope.

That's what I thought - unless I get into contracting where 3months is usually the shortest time for a contract.

So far whenever I've looked at the meetup page it hasn't given even a city location (though I guessed from some of the comments in the fora it was London) or a date. I've been holding back saying if I'll be there for that reason. 25th November, I should be able to make it.

Ice skating in London (Queensway) first, then drinking. How come I know this? I've been away! smiley - smiley Hope to see you there. I won't know for a while, but I'll do my best.

A friend's hubby has just gone over to contract work. I spoke to him today, and he only needs 9 days a month to earn the same as he has been up til now. I suppose that it's a bit of a risk though. Still, you like dangerous sports!

So that's where the ice skating is to be then. I did wonder!

My brother in law has been contracting for a couple of years so I can find the ins and outs from himn smiley - smiley
I 'd say minimised risk, rather than dangerous sports!

One month to London meet! Might not be skating by the looks of things. Shame. It's something I can actually do. smiley - smiley

I'm going to hear the curator of the Tate Modern give a talk soon. I still haven't been there though. Just very busy with that other dangerous sport, or should I say minimised risk activity.
Life. (as in "don't talk to me about....")

Must go back to the Tate Modern soon and have a look round some more of it. Very busy with work at the moment. I was there till about 9:30 this evening configuring some equipment that's to be sent to Germany tomorrow - should have gone today but it was being a pain. Ho hum.
