Not quite yet. We'll have to contact the trade descriptions people.
Hope your crimbo was great - I'll be replying to emails at some point when I get back to my pc! It's been very lonely for the past few days as I haven't touched it!

Technically speaking it is! In December 1999 I read an article in the Guardian about h2g2 and lurked for a couple of weeks before taking the plunge and registering. Then I lurked some more before posting.

When I first got connected to the net in the summer of 1999 I started a little newspaper cuttings box everytime I saw a recommendation about a website. I found it when unpacking so last night I had a look to see if I could find the Guardian story.
I did! It's dated October 7th 1999, so I did quite a bit of lurking before I actually registered. I wonder how many people it brought in. Actually, with your fancy tools you can probably tell. Was there a spike? What kind of U number would I have had?
I'll keep the cutting and show it to you next time we meet up, but here's a bit:
"... (it's) filling up with content from the people who actually use it. ...It is a witty and playful encyclopedia... Bookmark it as soon as possible..."
I should have joined when I read this, although there's a lot to be said for making someone lurk for 3 months before they are allowed to post, wouldn't you agree.
<-- More than 4 years lurking h2g2.

Happy Hootoo Birthday you old timer you
It's my h2 birthday this week too, but I'm a mere one yearer (although I did read for a year or so before I registered).
I don't think we've met, although your name seems familiar and my memory is appalling. I just saw your post on the Eyes thread

In that case you've done your time! As someone who lurks a lot anyway it must count.
I personally haven't got any fancy tools that can show me a spike, but you could look here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/hub/NewUsers?unittype=month&timeunits=51&skip=432&Filter=off to see where you would have come.

Yikes! All that white! Goo gal me and always will be.
I did look actually, which is how I knew. I'd have had a number like yours!
No fancy tools? Well, you could always use the h2g2 search facility *sniggger* or, if you want to find out before the end of the year, then you could wait for me to remember where I saw something.......
Chat amongst yourselves while I dig about in the bowels of h2g2.....

ahh, sorry about the brightness! I forgot that I've moved to the Hub sometimes. It's a bit sad really.
I might have known there was an easier way to do it! Although it did keep me occupied for a bit. I deliberately chose to work over xmas because my new job is much more fast moving, and so much busier than the one I had on h2g2 (although I'm sure that would have changed with the recent team changes) that I didn't want to come back to a huge backlog. And it's been very quiet. So I'm sitting at the dining rom table, quietly rerganising the filing system on the computer.

Boo! Wake up!
I'm glad they are keeping you busy in the new job and you get to sit next to Jimster too, which is lovely! Pass this on to him for me.
Have one for yourself too. Happy New Year to you and J. Today I've hung up my new calendar in my kitchen.

Scary woman!
I'm back in the office on Monday, so I'll be sre to pass that on to Jimster. Any excuse!
Glad that you've got the calender up - in prime position I hope. I usually buy a calender for J every year, but it gets used by us both. This year I made the supreme sacrifice, and bought a Hulk one, but it's got nowhere to write down what I'm supposed to be doing (I forget if I don't write it down) so I get to go out and chose another one, and the Hulk gets sent to the bedroom. Worked out lovely!

Prime position of course. Close to the fridge! With lots of space to write on it to keep track of what we are all up to and nobody can claim they didn't see it, since teenagers visit the fridge constantly. We might actually manage to be a bit more organised this year after the chaos that has been our life for a while. By this time next year maybe I'll have got rid of all the boxes.
Have fun with the Hulk in your bedroom. I helped a friend with her threshold (pay rise) application recently and she bought me Johnny Depp as a thank you, but I know that Sunshine wants him really, so I've got Spike from Buffy to have in my office at work. Phwar! I wish!
Blergh. I've had a horrible cold all week and I really need another week off but it's back to the chalkface on Monday for me. The early start is going to kill us!

Sorry to hear that you've not been well. J was due back at school tomorrow, but the boiler has broken down and they've got leaks etc etc. Hopefully he'll be back on Tuesday, or I'll be off work again. I do like xmas, but I like to be at work as well.
