Hi!
Since Abi's exhortations I've been feeling guilty about my h2g2 Uni. project (French Music 1870 - 1945). I'll carve out some time to do some work on it .... Also, I'm going round all who offered to do things on it, and asking ..... Are you still able to take part? I know you thought of doing a composer bio. (Faure already taken .. but there are heaps of others ...) Also, and comments on the main entry (where I've left questions) would be great.
Let me know if you're able to assist. The usual bribery of tea and gooey cakes will apply ... and I hope things are going OK for you on all fronts! Cheers!

I'm still up for taking a composer I don't mind which... I was thinking about Debussy, though, as I know a little more about him than Massanet, say. But Satie and Saint-Saens were entertaining characters too...

Yum! Thanks!
...and thank you for your offer of a contribution. Yes, I agree - they are all interesting, and their lives are well-documented. Please - pick whichever you like, and let me know. I'll take at least one of the others. (They should all feature, really!). If you choose other than Saint-Saens, I will do him because he is a key "link" to this period. He adopted the traditions of the earlier period (eg Berrlioz), then taught Faure, who in turn taught Ravel. This is one of the things that gives the music continuity across 70 years. (Also explains why S-S didn't think much of Debussy ).
Let me know who you're going to "do"

It's a deal! You've got Claude . Let me know how it's going, and yell if you need any help. The main entry is shaping up nicely now - still needs suggestions for "typical" pieces from the early, middle and late period ....

Hi Joanna,
An update on the project:
The main entry (A507719) and two bios - Satie (A546293) & Massenet (A550720) are just about finished, and in for sub-editing.
Two more pieces - one on the French Opera tradition (A546211) and a Faure bio (A481510) are approaching ready ...
If you get chance, take a look at any of these, and offer your comments. Seth has started a Conteloube bio - still a way to go there .... (Dare I ask?) ... How's things with the Debussy bio? Can I help with it?
But principally .... Hi! Good to see you again. Tea's brewing, and there's a light sponge cake with a hint of mango flavour that's just waiting for a dusting of icing sugar and a customer See you around!

Debussy hasn't really started yet, because I've had exams, but I've only got one left and thats not for over a week so expect to see stuff on him soon. And then I'll ask for help...
Tea is very welcome...

That's great! Nothing like a burst of impressionism between exams!
*Dusts cake with icing sugar and cuts two slices. Pours tea.*
I'll keep the tea coming ... you just yell when you need a hand with the Debussy bio.
