Buying Stuff
Posted Jun 10, 2001
Why is it that when we buy clothes, we will quite often spend _ages_ comparing different clothes in different shops, agonising over the colour, style and price.
The same also goes for hi-fi, gadgets, etc.. But when it comes to buying cars or houses, the time spent in the decision making process and viewing process is disproportionate to the costs - when compared to those items mentioned earlier.
I would hazard a guess that most test drives of new cars last less then 30 minutes. Most folks buying a new home probably walk around it twice at the most, for a total of probably 45 - 50 minutes.
I wonder if there is a name for this phenomenon, or indeed the ratio between cost : time spent making the decision to buy the item ??

A quandry over split loyalties
Posted Jun 22, 2000
What do you do when a good friend who has helped your career no end of times, got you pay rises, given you confidence, etc..etc.. is effectively gievn the sack from the place where you currently both work??
Whilst you completly disagree with the reasons behind him being asked to leave (long story but being ganged up upon by 2 directors who are husband & wife), you still quite enjoy the job - at the moment. You don't mind helping your friend get his own back, but don't relish the though of getting the sack - although you have no qualms about leaving if they give u a reason!??

Going to the Gym
Posted Jun 11, 2000
Went to the gym today after after a short...actually, no, fairly long absense. It's funny, you see someone come in and you think they may be quite attractive. But then 5 minutes later you look again and they've changed into this sweat monster and you can't beleive you ever gave thema second look.
Then the horrible realization strikes you that you are almost certainly that sweat monster too!
