What do you call this?

Is there a point where the terms "girlfriend" and "boyfriend" become too much of a high school thing? When you're dating someone and you've already reached (and passed) the age of 25, what do you call your significant other?
There's always the term "lover" but that tends to insinuate a purely physical relationship.
My father suggested simply using the term "friend" but that doesn't seem to get the point across either.
Any suggestions?

I call mine "butthead" but that's just me.

I think that "boyfriend and girlfriend" is ok. As long as you never use those terms relating to family. Ever. smiley - winkeye

Like in London, they don't say that they are "dating" someone, they say "going out" (or so I've been told) but I stopped "going out" with someone when I left high school. It sounds very shopping-mall-movie-theaterish to me.

right...I totally agree about that. However, I still feel pretty silly saying the others.

(I DO like the "butt-head" thing though)
