Well, I liked your name, so I just thought I'd stop by. It's quite refreshing to find that there are people out there who believe in courteous behaviour - You've restored my faith in humankind!!

Well thank you
Thanks for stopping by and saying something also
I'm glad I have been able to restore your faith. I've found that there are many people that feel the same way, however, for some reason they believe they are in the minority.

Hey saffire -
Thanks for stopping by. I have been well, but swamped. This new job is great, but I am learning languages like there is no tomorrow. So far I have JavaScript, ASP, Visual Basic, LotusScript, COM, and XML.
I've been a lurker, I apologize and I will be working on getting back into the fora
How have you been?

ha those computer languages mean nothing to me...
im doing pretty good-- its tough to get back into the swing of things after being away from h2g2 for a long time (and by long time i really mean a whole week...hell a whole day) ... weve finally got spring break but the weather sucks and im trying to read -the winter of our discontent-
woo hoo

Courtesy38 Posted Apr 18, 2000
Well all the languages are pretty much the same it's just alot in a short time. Of course I'm doing what I love so I should stop grumbling
How is the Winter of Discontent, what is it about, I have heard about it however never read it or met anyone who read it. Please tell, enquiring minds need to know
I'm currently reading Larry Niven's Sundiver, pretty good, but I keep falling asleep while reading it. Not that it's not interesting just that the only time I find to read for myself anymore is around midnight.
I'm glad to hear that you are finally at spring break and that you are doing well.

hehe it was the same way with me and the winter of our discontent - the book was actually pretty good but i kept falling asleep whenever i tried to read it at night... were discussing it in class now--especially the richard III connection and all those biblical allusions--so i have a better appreciation for the book. its a little slow but it gets better toward the end
whats sundiver about?
Hello, Courtesy
Courtesy38 Posted Apr 27, 2000
I'm glad you asked because I can also print a correction.
Sundiver is by David Brin.
It's the first book in what David Brin calls the "Uplift" universe. The basic idea is that there are these galactic civilizations and they go around the galaxy and find pre-sapient species and "uplift" them with genetic manipulation.
The problem is that here the humans are, and we didn't have anyone who uplifted us, so we are a wrench in the process That's the broad brush of the universe.
The book is about a group of people and aliens who are actually diving into the sun's chromosphere in ships to study the sun. They think they have found an intelligent species living in the sun. There's intrigue along with a great mystery. Usually I don't like mysteries, because I solve them too quickly, however David Brin weaves such a tangled web that it's just fun watching him unravel it.
I'm now reading Lord Foul's Bane, along with The Book of Five Rings and the Tao Te Ching

Courtesy38 Posted May 3, 2000
I've never read any Faulkner. I guess I should start. I'm also thinking of starting to read my Complete Shakespeare. The problem is that it's on this really fine paper, and I usually read right before I go to sleep. Fine paper and sleepy hands, baaaaaaaaaad
I hope all is going well in your life.

aghhh last weekend was miserable because i got little sleep, it was swelteringly hot, and i had too much to write in too little time... but the paper came out relatively decent (wohoo its done!)... and then this past week sucked big time but this weekend has been awesome--nice balance i suppose. i just saw gladiator last night!---i loved it. it was a little gory but supposedly not as bloody as braveheart--and i loved the acting and the scenery they had of rome and the arena was amazing!!
and now im off to watch a little bit o saturday night live. britney spears. should be interesting

Courtesy38 Posted May 14, 2000
Britney Spears ..... isn't she in her 14 1/2 minute?
I loved Gladiator, it definitely wasn't as graphic as Braveheart, which if you haven't seen is a great flick also. It seems the parts of Gladiator I liked the best, you liked also. To me the CGI was able to show me how stupendous Rome really was. I mean, I knew it was a beautiful, truly awesome place, but this movie allowed me to see what my imagination was trying to do
I just got back from seeing another friends band do another gig I love the local music scene, you are always surprised by some band just going up and kicking some major @ss Well it's 2 am and I've got Mom's day tomorrow, so I will see you.
Here's hoping this week is better than last week was

Physics, right. When something goes up it usually comes down. 186,000 miles per second. 9.82 m/s2. An object that's in motion stays in motion and object at rest stays at rest. Heisenberg. Schrodinger.
I think that's about it Need any other help
If you ever come out to the Southern California area, let me know and we can go up to Sunset and check out all the local Hollywood bands.
Hope your test went well. I'm sure you rocked.

saffire Posted May 19, 2000
ah hahah hhahahahahhaa. to say i bombed the physics exam is quite an understatement... but im all done with exams--- i feel like a free woman!!
ive never been to california before... you live near hollywood? seems like itd be the sweet life
Hello, Courtesy
Courtesy38 Posted May 19, 2000
Depends on what you are doing I should warn you that if you haven't been to california the distances are a bit much I can drive for 2 days to the north and still be in california
I live "near" Hollywood, in that, without traffic it will take me about an hour to get their. I have really only gone to Sunset to check out bands at the Whiskey A-Go-Go, the Roxy, the Viper Room, etc. There are so many local clubs that great bands go too.
For me the life of southern california is being 2 hours from the snow, 20 minutes from the beach, having 75 degree days and sunshine about 330 days out of the year, and the other 35 days, it being misty, maybe some rain
If you ever come out, then I promise to show you around some of the spots, like Melrose, Sunset, etc.
Sorry, to hear about your exams, but great to hear that they are over.
Just to let you know, I'm going to start up the Courtesy Zen Garden and Tea House, and would love if you could stop by I'll let you know when it is up. Should be a couple of days.
