Greetings
Hello there. I just dropped by your page and I thought that since I was here, I might as well leave a note on the table to say hi.
Nice little place you have here .
Of course...
The Cheese Posted Apr 5, 2000
Why thank you. I now assure you that you'll get a link here as soon as I:
1) Send a couple of e-mails and
2) Visit your page
And good day to you
Of course...
Kheldar (Don't hate the media, Become the media) Posted Apr 5, 2000
Perhaps it's not the most intelligent thing to ask, but why do you need to send a couple of e-mails? Forgive me, I'm still getting used to all this .
Of course...
The Cheese Posted Apr 5, 2000
Oh,the e-mails are unrelated. I just needed tosend e-mail for a totally and completely different purpose. But now your link is up .
Of course...
Kheldar (Don't hate the media, Become the media) Posted Apr 5, 2000
I am deeply flattered. I take it you have my page satisfactory then ?
PS. You might want to check up on the Kheldar spelling though ...

I'm flattered that you're using my Link'O'Matic and that you're linking to me (maybe I'll return the link some day ) but what is this about Psyduck? I've done my best to get rid of any association with that name! I CAN'T STAND POKEMON!!!
Can't I just be a cynical psychotic duck? That ain't to bad it it?
What What What?!?
The Cheese Posted Apr 5, 2000
No. I'll just make you 'Inventor of the LinkoMatic'. You DID invent it, right?
And sorry for the Psyduck reference. I just can't get the image out of my mind.
What What What?!?
Alon (aka Mr.Cynic) Posted Apr 5, 2000
Me not Psyduck!
And I was just a developer in it's great evolution - feel free to consider me its God . I did a major recoding of it. I studied current code, took bits and pieces and then wrote it together. One of my entries has its code and gives credit to Bruce and Olli as well as they seem nice people to give credit to, not being the inventors of the list either. I won't refuse being called its inventor though, however inaccurate the title may be
.

Kheldar (Don't hate the media, Become the media) Posted Apr 6, 2000
My first thought in response to this would be: What's in a name ?
As long as you know what you did with the list and the code, does it really matter what other people want to call it ?
What What What?!?
Alon (aka Mr.Cynic) Posted Apr 6, 2000
I wasn't being serious about removing the old name. I am glad to be rid of it but that was irony - hence the innumerable s. I'm glad to be rid of it though
.
What What What?!?
Kheldar (Don't hate the media, Become the media) Posted Apr 6, 2000
Actually I was referring to the word 'Inventor' . Never mind.
By the way, we haven't really introduced yet. Greetings . Kheldar's the name, and 'new' to h2g2 since 3 or perhaps 4 weeks.
What What What?!?
Alon (aka Mr.Cynic) Posted Apr 6, 2000
Hello - you can guess my name (hopefully)
.
And I'd love to be called the Link'O'Matic's Inventor. I just pointed out that I didn't totally invent the thing so not to offend those that kindly allowed me to see their code beforehand. Actually, it's fine to call me the inventor as I came up with the name - unless it was divine inspiration. Actually, the name isn't good enough for the G.O.D.
.
What What What?!?
Kheldar (Don't hate the media, Become the media) Posted Apr 7, 2000
We'll just stick to G.O.D. then .
Anyway, I like the Link-O-matic thing. Seems very useful. How'd you think of it?
What What What?!?
Alon (aka Mr.Cynic) Posted Apr 7, 2000
As I told you, I'm not the inventor, just a redesigner and coder. I looked at Olli's (U96637 if I'm not mistaken) old drop down list (he's using my one now). I then thought a list-box would be more suitable than a drop-down list. I thought giving each person a description would be useful and then thought how I can use delay systems to make it slow down when clicked or hovered over. Finally I added the two options of opening in New or This window. It did take quite some time to code but not as much time as the code on my page or of the ICQlist (A228205) - sorry for that blatent plug.
