Was gone, Is back. For now
Posted May 27, 2008
and does not need fatuous things like pronouns.
was busy with work. just would like to point that is back for another tour of h2g2.
may seem bit pointless to make journal entry of it. But serves as hallmark. probably. Case re-reads journal in times future, will exclaim, "oh yes! Was gone, Was back!"

European GPS
Posted May 4, 2008
An idle thought:
random news I heard a while ago, Europe launches its own version of GPS. or something in that flavour.
You usually use GPS when you are in a place you are not familiar with. And statically there's a slight chance that is a place you were not supposed to be in the first place.
so who is spying on you now?

Regular Expressions are Fun
Posted Apr 23, 2008
This is what I've been up to most of today:
#</(table|thead|tfoot|caption|colgroup|tbody|td|th|div|
dl|dd|dt|ul|ol|li|pre|select|form|map|area|blockquote|
address|math|style|input|p|h[1-6])>((\[[^\]]*?(dtxyess|
dtxtab)\])*?\[dtxyesbr\])#si
it's actually a single line. And one of the simpler parts of it. The others just look like a flurry of \[\]?([^aed])*\\\1|B6--!\E and so on. If I posted it here it would probably trigger all sorts of parser errors.

Panic, A Short How To
Posted Apr 22, 2008
Register on this site one Thursday afternoon. Then get unexpectedly obliterated(being cast in Oblivion works too). Find your way back here a few linear months later(non-linear multiples of eternity may have passed from your perspective).
You will obviously have forgotten your password. no need to panic yet, there is a link is small friendly letters which seems to reflect your state of mind i.e. "I can't remember my password"
which you click.
clicking is the action of moving your mouse pointer(I'll assume you know that bit of jargon) over some item in a virtual space and rapidly pressing and releasing the left mouse button to simulate an action on said item. Usually activating it. People tend to click all sort of things without thinking much.
for this reason, mice rule the world.
but anyway:
The h2g2 website, which must be unique in the whole of the interwebs to greet you boldly with a hello then immediately deny that it might be trying to impersonate you, will ask you for your "secret question".
Ah of course you don't remember your secret answer to your secret question. That particular Thursday you were feeling that you'd would set a particularly funny question based on something extremely witty you'd just heard, the answer obviously having nothing to do with the question (as it often happens in Life, The Universe and pretty much Everything else) and you'd be totally confident that you would be the only one to know the answer and remember it. the latter which of course you don't.
But still, no reason to panic. There's a link here too. a "I can't remember my secret question".
which you click.
a small narrow popup window will open informing you that obviously if it knew your secret answer to your secret question, it wouldn't be a secret any more now would it? And also that now would be a good time to start panicking.
which you do.
moral of the story. Because indeed, there is one. It is better to know how to panic in little packets at a time and deal with those as they come rather than not panic at all and thus postpone a really big panic attack which you won't be able to sort out easily.
And please get a mail server of some sort for h2g2. It's ridiculous that in 2008 a website of this calibre can't send out emails to its forgetful users with links to reset their passwords.

I am here (again)
Posted Apr 17, 2008
here is the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy "official" website. I don't like the term official... especially in quotes. Why can't people simply say it is the something. why insist that it is the "official" something? It won't be less of a something, will it? .... oh, I just found out via an alternate tab (hence demonstrating that tabs are extremely useful devices) that this is not the "official" hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy website, just h2g2. oh well.
I am one with a purpose. which is why I am here. the purpose I am here for is somewhat time bound and possibly not a very... expected one. It will be an interesting experiment for those interested though. But first I'll nedd to find my bearings in the Guide's community.
and again because, I was here before, then I was gone for a while, then I got back again. Hence, again.
