Thanks, Am. Turns out, when I uninstalled Chrome, then reinstalled it, I could sync back to my bookmarks, and restored it that way.

I'm hoping the uninstall and reinstall will have fixed the error I was getting when streaming. The video stuttered, and then I would get a message telling me

"chrome.exe - Application Error
---------------------------
The instruction at 0x6a350af1 referenced memory at 0x00000008. The memory could not be read.

Click on OK to terminate the program "

But the address banner on the dialog box was all Chinese characters, so I suspected that it was a virus I had downloaded (from Google add-ons, no less!). Cross your fingers that I've cured my disease... smiley - smiley

Considering how today's gone, you'll probably want someone *else* to wish you lucksmiley - laugh

Bummer, Amy! smiley - cheerup I read about the blackout you had, and the lack of affordable housing difficulty. I'm kinda in the same boat -- my savings are evaporating, and I don't qusalify for much help, as they say I have too much money! Wait long enough, and I'll have no money, so I guess I'll qualify then? I *might* be able to find someplace cheaper, but I now have a fixed rent with all utilities paid, and I'm scared of going out to where the rent can go up every year whether it's justified or not.

Such is the beauty of rent control. When you don't try to restrict the landlord, almost all of them will raise the rate only every 18-24 months or so, if then. It worked that way before I moved up north, when I lived in a no rent control area.

My landlady is the accountant for my old real estate managers, and she's promised me she won't raise the rate on me. I live in a property she owns, and she's known me for 16 years or so, and seems to like me as a tenant -- seems not everyone is as likely to pay on time, or notify her when they can't to make arrangements. Still, it's probably about $75-100 more than I can comfortably manage. smiley - erm

I doubt I would've fallen so hard today if the hope hadn't glimmered so brightly.

Amy, you have my sympathy! Keep looking and have hope. smiley - hug

I would've thought that the situation on rentals was getting better. When you search for rental housing in LA, there's a million places listed as "rent to own" -- all those reclaimed-by-the-bank properties that they want to get sold. So many, in fact, that I don't trust the banks to not end up in the exact same place they were when the bubble burst! Offering 3 bedroom houses as rent to own, at the rates they're mentioning, and they're bound to get the same folks who were overextended the last time. Check it out:

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/search/apa/lac?sort=priceasc&addTwo=purrr&hasPic=1&maxAsk=750&minAsk=450&srchType=A

There are a LOT of properties being offered as "rent to own". Before the bubble, there were none.

Keep in mind, the population down there is a few hundred times larger than up heresmiley - winkeye I think Crescent City may have about 8,000 people, and last statistic I remember, the unemployment rate was over 12% (after falling, but before the harbor was wiped out). Meanwhile, average rent on a 3 bedroom is $10 more a month than my gross pay, and while Tom tries to draw more than my pay each month, the last few months he's only been able to draw about a third of ideal (which still works about to half to a third of minimum wage).

Have you considered getting a two bedroom place, where one room is much bigger than the other, that way you can partition off an office, and it might be more doable. I'm hoping you can still find something with enough time left over to plan the move. Hang in there, kiddo! smiley - hug

We don't need an office, but we do need the bedrooms to be big enough for the girls to share one, if we get a 2 bedroom. We got into this one after Grace was born because there was no way a crib would fit into Faith's room, and exchanging rooms wouldn't've worked, because our bed and dressers wouldn't've fit in there, either (I even did the whole measure-and-convert-to-graph-paper thing).

Well, having gione through a total divestment of 99.7% of my worldly goods, before I moved from Glendale to San Jose, I have to say it can be done if it *has* to be, but it's extremely painful. I still miss some of my old stuff, like all my BOOKS, and the microwave. Because of the the pain, I'll probably buy few printed books again. I'm rebuilding my collections, but in ebook format. smiley - erm
