No, this is not a personal attack. I just felt it necessary to make that statement on some random person's space, and you're it.

Spaceechik, Typomancer Posted Apr 4, 2005
Well, frequently one can't go wrong with that statement -- it's a fairly common state in MY life, as my journal will tell you!
And when life DOESN'T suck, gravity does!!

On the contrary, Gravity never sucks. Gravity pulls. And life /always/ sucks. Because biological creatures suck air.

A suitably dark Gothian statement, with a rather bio-sci bent.
How does one find out if one is a Goth? Timidity in daylight, perhaps?
Just curious (or nosy, your pick!)

Read this: A473924
And realized it was describing me rather well.
You could also read this, if you want: http://www.sfgoth.com/primer/
But it's much longer, and doesn't explain quite as well I don't think.

Hmmm, interesting reading.
I go to a local SF convention called LosCon (I live in the greater L.A. area), and there's a very strong Goth contingent. Probably because there's such a strong Goth streak in SF and Fantasy these days.

In L.A.? Hmm......I think I'll be going there in a few years......Maybe we could meet up or something.....*shrug*
What sort of Sci-Fi do you like?

Well, I was compulsively reading "Interview with a Vampire", loathing the subject matter but enamored of the skill of the author. However, I could NOT read anything else of Ann Rice's. I also enjoyed the first two of Laurel Hamilton's Anita Blake series, UNTIL I couldn't .
But that is the extent of my Goth-ish topics. I usually go for hard SF or cyber punk. I kinda like where William Gibson's been going. I'm reading "Pattern Rocognition" -- about a "coolhunter" whose expertise is determining if something will appeal to the "masses" and who has panic attacks when surrounded by too many trademarks. It's one of the things I like most about Gibson, is that he lays a groundwork about a point he's out to make, and lets the reader "get it" without massive head trauma.
I've said for yonks that I was damned if I was going to walk around with someone else's name on my ass, so I'm really liking this one!

Loathing the subject matter?! How can you? It's about a vampire!!
As far as Sci-Fi goes, I tend to go with Star Trek, Star Wars, and Animorphs. After that I just pick up whatever I feel like reading.

I'm definitely an old time Trekker, and I loved the "first" middle trilogy of Star Wars (least liked of those, "Empire...").
One of my favorite films is "Gattaca", with Ethan Hawke, Jude Law and Uma Thurman. Really great premise and a bit of a forecast to some of our issues these days.
And as to vampires, besides the political variety, I'm no huge fan of people who kill others, even if it's for immortality.

Fair enough. But then I have to ask you, just because I'm like that, are you vegetarian?
There /are/ books where they don't kill, just so you know. If I recall the Lore properly, they don't have to but they're weaker if they don't.

I have fits and starts at the veggie life. I guess I'm actually a semi irregular carnivore, so point taken.
I know cows as have enough intelligence to be curious, because if you want to get a bunch of them to come over and watch what you're doing, invade their space and then ignore them.

Actually, my boss is a vampire. She sucks up any self-esteem she can get out of her employees, I swear. Where does that fit in the Lore? I mean, there are vampires and then there are Vampires...

Actually I learned about cows and curiousity at about age 10-11, when I was at camp and we were wandering around in an abandoned barn. I got a feeling of being watched, turned around and realized that 4 or 5 cows were standing right behind me, with their heads tilted to the side, looking very curious indeed.
