Looking around the house I realised that I was the owner of a very large wardrobe.

Yes, rings a bell. I'm not allowed to evolve very much though, as it leads to much scolding and harassment. Other highly efficient habits like only ironing the front of shirts are also frowned upon...

When I was a student, sharing with another bloke, we had a highly evolved house - we would eat off saucepan lids, and use all the available cutlery before either of us would deign to clean anything. Extremely efficient, but not popular with the fairer sex, indeed.

I have a few of these tendencies myself (as someone who lives alone, hanging up my clothes isn't a huge priority)


This bit I feel could be tweaked a bit.

My religious pretence only ever lasted a few hours before I had to open the closet and reveal my Darwinian tendencies. Although I tried hard to explain the benefits, the most common reply was “I don’t want to imagine what these rooms must have looked like at the height of evolution”.

---> I'm not sure the 'Darwinian tendencies' is what you mean, I thought more of 'experiments in Darwinian theory' or something.

also, 'benefits' may be ' intended beneficial outcomes' for instance.

But it is your writing, and these are only my personal views.

So this explains the messiness of my house. All those superior storage methods i.e messes have been evolving and in the end I won't be able to get through the door!

I don't think I'd change anything in this. But an illustration would be nice!
