Thanks for this. I liked it.
I could imagine those two people very vividly. I liked what you said about them.

thanks for your kind words, Dmitri
those two people haven't seen each other for about 30 years, but it's good to know that a little bit of their old friendship still lives on in the poem

Hi there
I don't usually comment on poetry, but this one sparked something within me - maybe I understand the emotion which made you write it. Perhaps it's because I can relate to the decades that have now passed since long-lost lovers vanished into time.
Thanks for submitting it.
Lanzababy
ps very pleased to meet you.

hello LB, pleased to make your acquaintance also
i'm glad that my pome managed to capture and share some of that original spark which hopefully we experience within relationships
writing that particular poem was a cathartic experience for me, well-needed and long overdue!
that other people also might get something positive out of the experience of the imagery described, is a pleasant bonus
hark at me, going on like i know what i'm talking about ...time to zip it, i think!

What's this? ...a Vogon likes my pome?!?
thanks for the kind comments, MVP
...er, i hesitate to ask this of a Vogon, but do you write any poetry yourself?

I admit to being a poet. And I haven't thrown anyone out of a space ship yet for not liking my poetry.
There are a few poets around on this site - though not as many as I would like. I'm particularly glad to welcome you, if you're interested in poetry.

aha - 'The stories and poetry of minorvogonpoet' - why didn't i try the advanced search FIRST? doh!
that's great, thanks!
..."three holes in the ground!" - it's been decades since i was in an environment with an active poetry collective
here's a spooky bit of synchronicity for you: last weekend i was rooting around in the loft, searching through my vast stockpile of carefully saved electrical componentry (aka "that useless junk"), when i found a copy of the poetry magazine which i helped start with some friends at school
i've tried to find this particular issue for years because it now contains an important (to me, at least) piece of history
anyway, there it was - at last - a poem written by someone in the year above me, one John Mellor ...a year before he left school and just a few years before he became slightly better known as Joe Strummer (of Clash fame)
if only we'd known! i guess there are pros and cons for being able to see into the future
*...beetles off to do a mind-meld with MVPs poetry...*

hi mvp
maybe it's just me, but i feel that certain poetry can give you an insight into the very soul of the author
the more examples from the same author the better, because our souls are not at all 'one-dimensional'!
so, here i am, back from a roller-coaster ride ranging from laughter and shared-fun, through serious issues of society's legacies and bureaucratic contempt for life, to the more personal and deep-seated feelings and sorrows of disappointment and loss
favourite finds (at the moment) are 'A Failure' for its songlike use of repeated phrases, with a steady climb towards a climax of intimate revelation - and '...Autumn Parting' for the symbolism of the seasons matched with inevitable progression of life and separation
it's been a pleasure to discover that the first two-thirds of your screenname are a misnomer
i've also been recommended to read Dmitri's poetry and i've now made a start on this
...so much to read in hootoo - so few circuits of the sun left to me!

Thank you for your kind comments .
I write both free verse and more formal verse. Do you write formal verse as well?
Dmitri's very good - but describing the pieces he's posted on hootoo would be quite impossible!

This is your notification: the Post editor (er, me) has shamelessly stolen, er, strike that, boldly appropriated, er, no, that's not it...
happily picked up your AWW submission for inclusion in the 2 April issue of . There!
Remember to subscribe to your poem on that date. Then you can reply to any comments the readers see fit to post.

ahh - oops - er, gosh - thank you, Dmitri!
well, this is a bit embarrassing - i just logged in to report back on reading your own poetry - i think maybe i should postpone my comments for a while or it could look like 'nepoetism' (!)
i'd be honoured to be included in the Post
i had hoped that in due course i'd be able to make a contribution somewhere in h2g2, but i really didn't imagine that it might happen so soon ...there must be a shortage of good material at the moment!
mvp, i have made an occasional attempt at formal verse in the dim & distant past, but i soon realised that my abilities - and discipline - are not up to the challenge
if i painted with pigments, instead of figments, i would have to be an impressionist!
i've found a real goldmine of poetry on the site - i'm going to go and dig away and admire the treasure and then come back and pick up our conversation here again in a few weeks, after the 2 April is safely out of view upstream
if i don't see you guys in another thread in the meantime, have a good Spring Holiday break
...wow!

The deal is, if you put it in the AWW, it's fair game. At , we troll the site for suitable material for sharing. Sometimes people send it in - everyone's welcome to submit at postteamhg-at-gmail-dot-com.
Otherwise, I am as a ravening whatsit, going about seeking what we may publish. <whistle
Enjoy your spring holiday! (And I hope you enjoy this week's Post.)

thank you kindly, folks!
mvp, as an ex-inhabitant of the Preston Circus area, i enjoyed reading your Brighton entry in PR, shortly after i arrived (i think it was at the stage whilst you were away for a week or so?) - i'm waiting now for the final version before i reread
i haven't included any suggestions with my comments, since you seem to be receiving a plentiful supply from others!
Dmitri, apologies if i seemed at all unenthusiastic about my poem getting select for - i knew that entries *could* get selected from AWW - i was just taken by surprise that my very first offering had 'made the grade'
Key: Complain about this post
