This period of history is pivital and the Godwin Family were the last Anglo Saxons to hold the throne - Harold was a 1066 God Father. This might be the start of a series Harold Godwin 1066 - A good year to die?

It's interesting to see this story from Harold's point of view. You have made him quite believable - a strong man standing up for the Saxons.
Some of the sentence construction could be improved: eg I would end the sentence beginning 'All the nobles sitting on the Witan...' after 'questioned'.

Agree with MVP, this is exciting but need some editing. There are run-on sentences in there.
Funny, I always had a sneaking admiration for Harold, trying to keep the Normans and the Norwegians out, but this account makes him seem calculating and less noble somehow.
But definitely more realistic.

Harold was one sneaky man. But he out sneaked William who thought he had been promised the throne by both Edward and Harold. when you understand Edwards Norman connections ,it was an amazing coup that Harold wrestled the Throne away. Although Harold's mum Gyda was Danish, so he wasn't really English himself. Basically England and Northern France , at that time, had been over run by the vikings - but by 11th Century they had become known as Normans.......
A very interesting , complicated time in English history ......Infact the invasion in 1066 is seen by school kids as the French invading England , which is totally inaccurate. The French king had already given Normandy to the vikings about 200 years earlier.
Sorry to be a bore but finding that out was a bit of an epiphany for me.

Interesting entry. A series of excerpts of critical events for Harold that year would be .
Writing form first person makes it much more immediate - I like it. Sorting out the run on sentences would help, some short punchy sentences would add impact. Maybe raise the vocab rating too? I suppose there's a balance to be struck between understandable modern English and something that gives a flavor of the period.
Thanks for the read,
