Lady Pennywhistle - Back with a vengeance! [for a certain, limited value of Vengeance; actual amounts of Vengeance may vary]

This entry was written on a wednesday (and one that happened to be very nasty, too). I hope it will avoid any diabolic influences. smiley - devil

It all becomes horribly clear. That's why I woke up with only ten minutes to catch my bus this morning!

I like this, you have an engaging style. I think it could be improved, the arguements strengthened. If you are interested that is...

Of course I'm interested! I always like feedback.
So what do you think, Speckly?

I presume that this is intended to be more entertaining than informative though that might not be the case, so correct me if I'm wrong and I shall revise my opinions.

I find the idea of in between times fascinating. You could add to that, and more generally build up the mythology of the arguement. For a piece like this it can quite happily be cod mythology, which you are leaning towards already smiley - winkeye, and that's not a bad thing at all. I can go through my books of mythology when I get home from work (in work right now) and see if I can find any relevant snippets of fact, if you'd like.

I also think the 'advice' section could be fleshed out. Again the mock serious tone works really well and there must be more tips for circumventing the evil day's influence.

Still thinking, but in work, so muchus interruptus.

I also liked this, as it explained why it was raining and the bus passes me by this morning. You did make one mistake, however - it is called Wibble! See the Campaign to rename Thursday 'Thing' if you don't believe me. Overall, very good.

It's such a relief to find there was always a rational reason why I hated Wednesdays.

It's a neat and entertaining entry smiley - cheers and thanks for the read. I agree that it's got scope for more - along the lines Speckly suggested. If you wanted to do that.

I googled Odin, guess what, among his other names is "Bolverk [evil doer]". Another site said he 'loved to cause conflicts and shifts of power'. Which kind of fits with inbetweenness. He ended up being swallowed by a wolf - not too lucky then, for a god! It all fits.

First of all, thanks! I agree this entry is still a bit "thin", as I said it was written after a rather nasty wednesday so it might be a bit sketchy.
Waz, that's great info, I'll add it in right away. smiley - ta
Speckly, what exactly is "cod mythology"? I might be leaning towards it, but I don't know what it is... smiley - huh

Alright, I've made some adjustments. I still need to work on the "advice" section, but I have a class to go to... if you have any ideas about that let me know. smiley - ta again.

I like Wednesdays - its the night I go and play football. Come to think of it, it seems to rain a lot more on Wednesdays...

More Odin stuff - his symbol/little helper is a raven, and as everybody knows, a raven is a bird of bad omen.

Maybe mention that some countries have made a concerted effort to make Wednesdays better - in France, the kids have the afternoon off school to do sports or activities on Wednesdays. So they only have half a Wednesday. Got to be better.

Maybe add a bit on bad Wednesday's historically - doesn't ash wednesday mark something very bad happening to Jesus, for example?

I love the bit about it being so difficult to pronounce smiley - smiley Its always a killer for foreign students.

Hmm... I always found Thursday's to be the problem days. smiley - erm

You haven't been reading Dirk Gently have you? smiley - biggrin

Anyway, I like this. Its about my level smiley - smiley. Just enough information to make it interesting, but not too much to take away the pace of the read and the entertainment value.

Anyway, keep it up smiley - ok

Alright, some changes have been done, I hope it's a bit more "fleshy" now, but I would appreciate your opinion! smiley - smiley
Oh, and by the way, Verc: I like Dirk Gently, but I haven't read it in a long while - a bit too long, I'm afraid, to remember what you're refering to. Was there anything there about Wednesdays? It could be a nice addition, I think.

I was actually referring to the Odin/Wodin reference in the article. Odin (or Mr Odwin as he was known) had quite a significant part to play in the Second Dirk Gently book.

I like the changes by the way. smiley - ok

sorry, 'cod' is a polari (really old gay slang) word that means sort of made up. So cod mythology would be believable, but not exactly authentic.

Wednesday's get mentioned in a few rhymes.

The obvious one is 'Wednesday's child is full of woe'.

Apparently in Ireland Wednesday is considered the luckiest day of the week to get married. There's a rhyme aobut that too, the relevant line being 'wednesday the best day of them all'. Not that I would slander the Irish but they do have an international reputation for doing things backward...

Solomon Grundy is sort of applicable too. Again 'married on Wednesday' but it was all downhill from there so it could be that the curse of Wednesday did for him.

You could also refer to Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family.

If you are unfamiliar with any of the rhymes let me know and I'll copy them out.

I'll keep looking for Wednesday evilness. smiley - biggrin

Actually, there's a thread about this 'get married on Wednesday' rhyme - the link is F1696155?thread=351232 (I hope it will work).
Personally, I just believe that all good sayings about Wednesday have been created by the devil. That will explain everything. smiley - devil
