Hi DZ, 
I'm just wandering around dropping comments into these threads and was surprised to see that this hasn't had a single comment, 
We ran it in Agg-Gag (or was it CAC by then?) a while back and i think it is a good example of creative writing on h2g2, so i'm bumping it up the AWW list in the hope others might see it...
I'm having what i believe cynics refer to as 'a moment of optimism',
