I don't know much about the situation in Nigeria, but this really makes a whole lot more sense when you know it's a political commentary. 
Seems pretty effective to me, too.

Should we perhaps put a quick bit at the top about it being a political thing? I don't know about the situation in Nigeria either

I don't know, it certainly worked better for me after I learned it was a political thing 
( as well.)
