Zak, I think you have touched on some important issues. 
However, this piece needs more work. I felt that it fizzled out rather - I would like to have seen more about the role of Martin Luther King, Rosa Parkes and others who campaigned for civil rights. Could you also please spell out the initials.
You also need to look at your sentence construction. For example, look at the sentence that begins 'Fast forward through several decades of American in justice.' The logic of what you are trying to say would be better expressed if you changed the order. Something like: 'Several decades of American injustice elapsed between the creation of the NAACP in 1907 and the beginnings of the civil rights movement.'
