*Yes I realise this only conforms to the 5-7-5 rule, not to the other haiku rules of aesthetics, metaphor etc, but it's a postmodern version.

Shadow edged by light
Water shaped by a bottle
Absence in presence

Muddy Medusa
Sat like Piffy on a rock
Time's wings have been clipped.

Gold-misted dawn,
Monsoon-filled eyes cloud waking thought
"I want" is a brat.

I want my life back
There's too much on my shoulders
This isn't my life

"Come off it" pulled back
reality check in time
thank you, I needed that.

On this day of days
forgotten and remembered
return for a while

Difficult winter
Communication gone haywire
There's no other side

Bitter wet sleet whips
a silk scarf into banner
dusky grey pearl sky

Light frozen on screen
change settings then chase the shadow
flash-faced blink again

Be here again now
as friend or adversary
come as you are, soon.

You've already seen -
look again at seaweed strands
heavy hanging slick

"When's he coming then?"
No offence meant or taken,
I'm just the stand-in.

Did the spring thaw you
or was it coincidence
that you spoke today?

You could have told me.
I expected honesty,
Even if painful.

This year summer came
unlike the last long wet year
life regained for now

Drizzle grey rain haze
Saturates all three of my
Unwilling layers

A distant fox calls
and the purple moor echoes
with a hunting pink

The first dark evenings
and the autumnal gales' howl
call me back to life
