This is a Flea Market rescue - my first, so forgive me if I don't understand the rules & regulations, but I really would like to see this superb entry by Jeremy in the EG. I'm willing to make changes but it's not my work remember, so don't get technical on me

What a great start.

Just bouncing this to the top so I can find it and remove it. For some reason it's not displaying in my editor view.

You know, if we all unsub from this thread I think it will just disappear into the ether. Not sure if there's any other way to remove it.

It worked for five years, but then it re-appeared in Peer Review in the new Barlesque system.

This one is back in the Peer Review list in Pliny, even though it was taken out of Peer Review about 8 years ago.

One suggestion: the list of harmonics starts with 0 as the fundamental, then 1 is the octave and so on.

Much more useful is to number the fundamental as 1, because the subsequent harmonics are then numbered to give the multiplier of the fundamental frequency. Twice the frequency gives the octave, three times gives an octave plus a fifth, and so on.

The usefulness can be seen at a glance, in that all the octaves above the fundamental are now 2, 4, 8, 16, and so on.

This is the way they are numbered in (for instance) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonic which is extremely well written, accurate and readable.

Hi Recumbentman, this is a "ghost" thread, the entry is not in Peer Review. It was duplicated in 2006 and the original has been edited - A9567723.

What a pity h2g2 doesn’t have anyone technical, who could sort this out.
