Often regarded as one of the most famous thought-experiments in Natural Sciences, the "Schrödinger's Cat" exercise was in fact executed by its creator Erwin Schrödinger using a silver tabby called Rutherford which was sealed in a stout cardboard box.

As if to prove the point of his theorem, Schrödinger did not want to ever open the box. However, Frau Schrödinger, fearing the potential of the twin terrors of radiation poisoning and the whiff of a dead cat, made him sell the whole setup as a job lot.

The advertisement shown in A1093051 appeared in the small ads column in the December 20th edition of the popular "Vienna Bystander" newspaper.

It is understood that Schrödinger never received any monetary offers for his goods, settling instead to trade with a German naval commander for an accordion and a budgerigar called Adolf.

Thanks for posting this here, Shepherd.

I have a failing for whimsy, and this appealed to me. However, it seems to me to need the explanation you give in the first post in this thread. How about adding that to the entry?

Cheers

B

Hi B !
smiley - ta for the reply. I completely agree with you.
This is my first dab at an h2g2 entry; I had a smiley - doh moment 1/2way through writing my explanation when I realised it should be attached to the article itself.
Shall I go ahead & edit & re-post ?

smiley - cheers

You can change entries which are in a review forum without removing them from the forum, so just hit the "Edit" button and make the changes.

Most authors who make changes to entries in a review forum announce the changes in the conversation thread, so that people reading it can work out which comments are still relavent, and which ones have become out of date.

Have you written anything else you'd like people to look at?

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben
Thanks for the guidance. I've updated the article & had a go at putting it in GML format.

>Have you written anything else you'd like people to look at?

Yes - I've plenty other nonsense kicking around. Hopefully I'll post for some feedback, comments, abuse, etc over the next couple of weeks.

Well, the AWW is one of the more - er - select areas in h2g2. Which is a polite way of saying that nothing happens here at all for months on end. Hopefully that is about to change, and it will get more busy, but I'd hate you to hold your breath, get discouraged, and not post stuff because it seems quiet and dull in here at times.

So post away, the more there is that is interesting here, the more that other people will stop by and read, especially when the Miners come back from their various holidays.

Btw - I like the entry much more now, and the GML looks good.

Well done!

B

Hi there Shepherd, smiley - smiley

Just droppin by to prove what Ben said in the post above; well, a month and a half is a blink of an eye in the AWW! smiley - biggrin

Although, having said that, this entry had sunk down several pages since the end of June, so *something* must be going on! smiley - ok

Well, in fact, i was really posting to say that i read and enjoyed your Schroedinger entry! smiley - cheers

What is it about the word 'budgerigar' that is intrinsically funny? smiley - laugh Whoever it's named after!

Anyone else read this?
