Hi Maria / Janeway (I think I spot a Voyager fan here)! Sorry I haven't replied sooner - been exploring the real world. As a first year med student I'm not going to have a huge amount of patient contact this year - instead it's going to be full of theory and textbooks. It works out at two lectures and a practical a day, so there's a lot of sitting around in lecture halls! How I wish I was doing anthropology which is only five lectures a week!
I've been told that you can do anything with a med degree, so if you don't want to be a doctor then that's not a problem. When I was working in a research lab there were a couple of medical doctors who went into research rather than join the health service. No idea what I'm going to do yet (it's a long way off)...
So why do you want to do medicine? (Oh God, I hate that question. Being asked that in an interview made me want to scream). You're doing the right subjects for it (biology is fun, chemistry's a necessary evil (I say that coming from a long family line of chemists) and I have no idea about computing, is it any good?).
Anyway, 'nuff about medicine. What else you get up to? At the mo I'm helping some mates out with a magic show. It's pretty cool, but it's a long day (I haven't been home before midnight this last week. Mind you, that may have somethig to do with there being a pub next door to the theatre! ).
Didn't mean to write that much! Your turn...
