'Bliss' by Muse... That's an excellent song for promoting an emotional response, as is 'Ready to Go' by Republica and for me at least, 'D'yer Know What I Mean?' by Oasis.

oh Bliss That live is so amazing, sends shivers up and down you...a lot of Muse songs I find elicit emotional repsonses from me. Also Rachmaninoff, a truckload amount...Turin Brakes, their song "Blue Hour" almost always makes me feel all peaceful and tranquil.

I think Oasis tap into some innate portion of the Mancunian brain, same as the Stone Roses. Songs and chords that a cockney or a geordie would just shrug at can cause anything from near-rapture to near-depression in a Manc.

Try playing D'yer Know What I Mean at 2am when you arrive at Picadilly Station from a short holiday, it besically sums up that feeling of 'I'm home and I'm foookin loving it!'

There is something inherently 'Manchester' about Oasis... try playing that at Euston, and you just don't get the same effect...

Well it wouldn't for me. Euston's not the 'hole where I was born'. That line just reminds you, not unpleasantly of the pre-bomb Arndale, stinking of urine and stale ashtrays... Ahh, my youth.
