Not only is it posible that the aliens have babel fishes in their respective ears,(since Ford retrieved arthur's original fish from an aquarium on the vogon destructor ship) but it also states in the guide tha other races can also hear the translated words of a recipient of the babel fish setting up home in his / her aural cavity.
