It seems I must have misread the FAQ, which stated we could seamlessly incorporate HTML into guide entries alongside GUIDEML.

Yes, you can add some HTML tags to the GuideML tags, as long as they are well formed (see GuideML-Syntax). Also, you'll be unable to add tags which might break the <./>HouseRules</.> (such as no offsite images or sounds)
