Hello Peter,
Not chatted since last Friday. So, Reading. I was born in Berkshire, in Abingdon which I know "they" insist is in Oxon now, but I still put Abingdon, Berks on any official form.
Did you see Portillo's presentation of Elizabeth 1 on the Greatest Britons prog this week?
Her Tilbury Docks speech has to be one of the most inspiring ever. IMHO.
Nearly time for Question Time - love shouting at the screen.

Hey Sarnia
Go girl, shout at that screen!
You'll get in soooo much trouble saying Abingdon, Berks, nowadays. Remember when the White Horse at Uffington used to be the symbol of Berkshire and Newbury had the South Berks College and Abingdon had the North Berks College? Oh, happy days...
No, sorry. I missed the Portillo prog, which was a shame because I remember his Spanish travels programmes and I know he can present a show well. I'm also a student of the Tudor period (in my own little way) so it would have been doubly interesting. I did see the Shakespeare programme last week, though.
Nice to hear from you. Please keep in touch. As you probably know by now I enjoy chatting about films, silliness, booze, radio 4 progs, good TV drama, silliness, novels and good music. Oh..and I also spend a lot of time just being plain silly.

I don't know Abingdon well at all, as my parents moved back to London when I was six months old.
Reading your post has just made me realise that I completely forgot to watch David Starkey's prog on Mary 1 last night - grrrrr.
I love Tudor history; my favourite period.
Not only did I shout at the screen last night, I also had a text message come up!
I like good TV drama, wine, food, books.
Glad you replied

There are so many good popular historians who specialise in the Tudors; Alison Weir and David Starkey, obviously, as well as many others whose names escape me at the moment. I suppose you could count Christopher Hibbert, although he covers all historical periods. There is a good book about Edward VI in the Yale English Monarchs series by Jennifer Loach that I would recommend.
I didn't see Starkey's programme either. Nine o'clock on Thursdays is the sacred West Wing slot on E4 - I can't miss that. I'll have to wait for the Edward and Mary series to be repeated on The History Channel.
I should have watched Question Time last night instead of the godawful film I watched on Sky MovieMax. I can't believe I missed the Sopranos to watch it. (The Hole - a terrible, uncreepy film about four schoolkids shut in an old bomb shelter. Avoid.)
Not to worry. I watched a super, crappy, wonderfully silly Hong Kong cops n robbers film after it. I'm a sucker for badly dubbed daft HK movies.
Bye for now
Peter

I have a couple of Alison Weir books.
Shame you missed QT. Piers Morgan was on - what a procastinating hypocrite!
You certainly enjoy your films; I'm not really into them too much although I do have a couple of favourites (old ones mainly).
I see that Doctor Strangeloves has managed to track us all down at last!
Catch you later, I'm not around much today.
