Clem had a daydream, a daydream from heaven
Picked up the headline, his country was made up of singers
And no more right-wingers
He wakes up to "Homeless are stupid, welfare is stupid
Private investment, efficiency, cool fiscal plannin'"
Sounds like more Pat Buchanan
Back in his day job this afternoon
Unlikely he'll move down to Cuba soon
Reluctant to find he's stuck in the '90s again
Clem reads of the old days, twenty years goes a long ways
"Challenge the system!" Relating is easy on a demo
Now they'll send it by memo
'Cause there's no need for the peace sign, post-republican "Peace time"
Join the parade, wave the flag, tell the world it's your lackey
Abbie Hoffman was wacky
Riding the bike to his foreign car
Burning his mind in his VCR
Reluctant to find he's stuck in the '90s again
Reluctant to find he's stuck in the '90s again
and he's lots...
don't you know what it's like to be lost?
and older... "tears on his shoulder"
real men are BOLDER!!
Soon I'll be 30, I don't want to be 30
I've got some big plans, Goodwill has some big hands
With each new computer screen, the world tells me I'm more green
Buy a new Game Boy!
For the fun and the fashion... just for the passion
Back in his day job this afternoon
Unlikely he'll move down to Cuba soon
Reluctant to find he's stuck in the '90s again
Reluctant to find he's stuck in the '90s again
White lies, rich guys hoarding a big prize
We've got work to do
Reluctant to find he's stuck in the '90s again

Happy 30th bday, zoomer!
If I understand you very long -- but I'm sure, within the bounds of 'fair use' reference -- you're having second thoughts about the decaying capitalist system of which we've both been a part for too long.
for what it's worth
a) I, too, look on with disgust and horror, thinking that I used to look forward to 'Report on Business' in the G&M
and
b) I'm not stuck in the nineties. Last night I was looking at a little of what I think of as 'New Bowie' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXvAaNcXNzI and then I noticed it was from that quarter century past Orwellian year.
tempus fugit sed non possum tempore fugere. (does fugeo take the ablative?)
'time flies, but I can't flee time'
(Oddly, while composing that Latin bit, I realized that it echoes Bowie in 'Changes'.)

I almost think we might be in the beginning of 'Clem's dream', if only Reaganomics and Thatcherism could be held up to the light of day and be seen as the antithesis of what government was invented for- regulation for the human good. Is his statue laughing at us?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31087271/
Even Clinton will be seen as an anti-regulatory in history, he merely bent to the will of the Republican majority while his intern(s) bent to him.
What will they call it, the dirty 'aughts? At least I hope it stops next year, what other occluding bubble could they think up to cover the whole problem???

There has been a part of my personality that has been a dark raven croaking storm warnings since I was in High School (Class of '79). But as each year grows more stupid, I feel that raven returning with a certain 'I told you so' expression on his more-aquiline-than-Caesar's-or-an-eagle's beak.
I don't think a year will be enough for the changes that must come. Selfishly I hope that we, in our Northern Stronghold, will be insulated from the coming troubles.
Are you on high ground?

I've been told that I'm generous to an obvious fault and My Three Daughters' wedding, teeth and education (in descending age) along with the market 'readjustment' has finally proved that to me. I'm starting over with another condo this month and recession willing I'll be back in black next year.
Unfortunately I tend not to share your feelings about our Northern Redoubt. The increasing value of the loonie (oh those five words are so rich with irony!) and the reinforcement of power of 'unfettered free market' governments in yours, mine and ours governments gives me faint hope. I may have to hold on to another box of air in the sky for an additional year if the Lotusland 5-O doesn't bounce us back next year. (Think rings).
Take care my virtual friend.

Class of 70 for me, btw. At the time I envied those who had T-sirts which had large '69's on them. Ah youth. But then, I still have to buy my 7th MGB some day and I haven't owned a 69.
