Well I like it. Just one thing's confusing me - when writing a limited blank cheque, *where* do you write the limit? Presumably a bank will reject a cheque made out for squillions if it has "Not more than £500" on it, but I'd feel more reassured if the entry specifically stated this.

Really liked this one. Isn't it great to have an article that you don't have to write the usual (guideML, someone else written the same, write something decent!) blurb.
I did have one point, I'm not up on my grammer and abbreviations (or spelling ) is this correct? Is it some special way of getting out of the him/her debate in articles? Or a typo?

I know that this is a pet topic of yours, Lucinda, but for the purposes of the *Edited* Guide, using accepted, common pronouns would be recommended. If nothing else, it saves the pain of sitting back and watching them all being replaced for the Edited version.
(Your original version will, of course, remain as is)

Oh, I can't resist!
You don't actually need a 'cheque' to make out a valid instrument - you can write them on anything. I always remember being told that you can make them out on the side of an elephant (or any other part of the elephant) providing you include all the relevant information. I was, however, also told, that you would be unlikely to find a bank that would take an elephant as they would not have the holding facilities.

True Zarquon - but that can go in an entry on the larger subject of 'cheques'...
> "*where* do you write the limit?"
On the bottom of the cheque, underneath the amount payable, is recommended. But technically it can be anywhere.
> "Is it some special way of getting out of the him/her debate in articles?"
Bingo! Give that Researcher a gold star.
Jimster - wise advice, which I plan to ignore. More a reflection of the advisee than the adviser, though.

I'll add stuff about where to write the limit.
Cheers all

Money must be part of the zeitgeist today. This is is the third entry in two days that I am aware of.
It is also the most lucid and most informative.
A good entry.

I wasn't aware that I'd volunteered! Although it might make a good part of my University entry, which I'm beginning to get more motivated to work on.
What was the third entry, Ben? I'm aware of yours and this.

Of course, if you don't have the funds in your account to cover a transaction, then your cheque may simply bounce , which the bank will then charge you for - at the bank I'm with (and used to work for) it's £30 for an unpaid cheque or Direct Debit.
But, if you guarantee it with your cheque card number and expiry date, then the bank will have to pay - as long as the amount equal or less your cheque guarantee limit. I have a suspicion that it's a legal requirement.

The one I was thinking of was A806852 by Piniped. I shamelessly nicked (with permission) my two favourite lines for my entry on Money and Belief. But if Zarq manages to put the whole lot together as a Uni project then I will return the two lines to Pinniped's entry, because that is where they rightly belong.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
