hehehe. not a problem i can post it here. enjoy!
A CROWDED MIND
Detective David O'Neal started at the papers on his desk, the pounding in his head returning as he tried to read the latest report on a bizarre string of murders. Women were being found in dark allies all over the city. What he found so bizarre was that in some way he knew each of them. Some from previous cases, while others, from his day to day life. It was the only connection he could find. But he couldn't explain it. He had even begun to look at Taylor, his partner and best friend, as a suspect.
O'Neal groaned and ran a shaky hand though his dusty blonde hair. I can't deal with this right now he thought as the words before him all began blurring together.
Taylor shook him back to the present. "Mate you look awful, go home, this will still be here tomorrow. You've been at it for days. One more won't make that much difference."
O'Neal glanced up at his friend with a glazed look and sighed. "Yeah your right, I was supposed to meet with Dr. Jacobs." He looked at his watch. "Oh bloody hell! I'm late. Bet she thinks I forgot the appointment again.
Taylor tried to hide the worried look on his face as he watched his partner leave in a rush, What ever was going on with him he hoped this shrink could help him deal with it. What ever it was it seemed to get worse as the case they were working dragged on and on.
The air was deadly cold; the wind was like a blade of ice against his face. The darkness of the alley would suit his needs well; He would be hours away by the time anyone found the body.
This one wasn't supposed to die, but she just wouldn't leave well enough alone. She kept asking questions. Questions that the others had decided O'Neal did not need the answers to. But, Joe reasoned. There was no reason he couldn't enjoy himself a little.
He hadn't meant to kill her so soon, he had wanted to make it last a little longer. But he couldn't be sure they were alone in the building, her screams were so loud he was sure someone would hear her and call the police. Oh well there would always be the next one he could take his time with.
Laying her battered form in a pile of moldy rags he grinned as he covered the body and fled, the thick fog hiding him.
Returning to the flat Joe pushed the door shut with a booted foot and peeled off his bloody clothes tossing them aside, He couldn't be bothered to clean the mess. "Let the others do it." He thought. "I got better things to do."
He had no idea that one small woman could bleed so much. He had to admit though he rather enjoyed the fear in her soft brown eyes. He could never get enough of making someone feel that kind of fear.
Climbing in the hot shower, Joe stood letting the steaming water wash away the last of the blood as Andy took over.
Andy watched as the red water as it went down the drain and groaned, "Not again! Damn it Joe why can't you control yourself? If you don't stop He will find out, then what do you think will happen to us? Or is it that you just don't care?"
Joe said nothing.
"It would be bad if we were discovered now."
All the others seemed to be in agreement. He was not to know about them.
The child spoke up. "Why did you have to hurt her Joe? I liked her. She was nice."
"Shut up Timmy! She was beggin' for it."
"I'm scared Andy, what if they lock him up like you said. Then what happens to me?"
"Oh stop you're whining Josh," Andy said Lemme think.
Katrin would have smacked the boy if she could of, but all she could do was scream, at him and tell him to shut up. Andy did what he had to do to protect them, and now with Joe killing anyone that got close to David she wondered how he was going to protect them all.
Several hours later, Detective O'Neal woke to his phone ringing at his head. He was needed. Another body had been found. Grabbing a jacket he rushed out the door to his car, siren screaming in the night he drove to the scene.
Tyler met him as he shut of the engine and stepped out of the car. Putting his hand on his friend's shoulder, Tyler steered O'Neal from the scene.
He looked at Tyler in disbelief as they placed what was once the body of a young woman in the black bag on the gurney and zipped it shut, he couldn't believe it was true. Carly Jacobs just couldn't be gone. He had just left her office four hours ago. She was fine then.
Turning from the grisly scene he climbed into his car and drove home. Walking into is flat he shoved the door shut with a boot and hung his jacket on the doorknob as the blood soaked gloves in the pocket dripped a puddle on the floor. Collapsing on the couch he let sleep claim him.
Katrin woke and stretched out on the couch. She didn't come out often. She hated this body, but the others didn't have a clue when it came to taking care of details, Josh and Timmy were too little, Andy… Well Andy was busy with trying to keep the secret. And Joe, well Joe seemed only to want to cause trouble for them all.
Feet padding silently on the carpet, Katrin headed to the bedroom. Digging around in the closet she found a baggy pair of sweats and over sized sweatshirt, pulling the shirt over her head she tried to do something with her hair. Disgusted with it she gave up and tied a bandana around her head.
"Lets get this over with," she sighed "I so don't want to be here, Why am I always the one to clean up after Joe? I suppose you left a huge mess at her office too didn't you, you stupid idiot."
"Oh shut up. They will never find out it was me… I had gloves on the whole time, and I waited a while before I went back. For all anyone knows, it was a botched break in, your precious David is in the clear. Now leave me alone!"
Remembering that peroxide would remove blood she searched the bathroom until she found a bottle, Taking it and a clean rag she returned to the living room, Putting the gloves and jacket in a bag she poured the peroxide on the drying blood. Leaving it set she started a fire in the fireplace, at least no one would question a fire this time of year. Tossing the bag into the flames she watched, mesmerized as the flames consumed the evidence.
Katrin jumped at the sound of a woman's voice from behind her.
"Anyone ho... Oh my! I didn't know Detective O'Neal had company. You are?"
Katrin was trapped.
"Tell you are his sister." Andy hissed at her. "You have to keep the secret.
She smiled at the woman.
"Oh that's okay dear. I am David's sister Katrin. She held out a hand.
"I didn't know David had a sister."
The woman clearly wasn't buying it. "We don't see each other much, I thought I would surprise him."
"Strange, I just know Mr. O'Neal never mentioned a sister. In fact he never speaks of his family."
"No he usually doesn't." She gave the woman what she hoped was a warm smile.
"Get rid of her," Andy warned. "She is gonna cause trouble Katrin."
"Shhhh, Its okay Timmy."
"Now see what you did Andy you made him cry."
Katrin tried to shuffle the nosy woman out the door before Andy took over.
She had failed!
Andy emerged. Grabbing the woman's arm he wrenched it behind her shoving her into the wall.
"You really should've minded your own business old lady."
The gruff voice behind her confused her. "You...you aren't Katrin. What is going on here!?"
The voices of the others screamed at him. "Not here Andy, not here it'll make a mess."
"Oh shut up all of you, I wouldn't have to do this if Katrin would have gotten rid of this old bag."
Andy drug the frightened, fighting woman back into her own apartment, grabbing a doily from the table he stuffed it in her mouth and shoved her out the window to her death on the pavement 4 stories below.
Joe sat in the corner smirking. "Well that showed some ingenuity, No muss no fuss. Personally I would have made her bleed a little though. Might have been fun."
"Back off Joe. I didn't wanna do that. Katrin left me no choice. Besides someone could have found out about you too ya know. You really shouldn't have wasted the shrink. "Last time really made a mess."
Joe glared at Katrin. "Can't you shut that brat up? He squalls all the time. Don't you have anything better to do kid? Like go jump of a bridge or something."
Josh, not liking the way Joe always yelled at Timmy spoke up, "Get off 'em Joe. Why ya gotta be so mean to him? He is just a kid."
Joe stomped off to his corner chair and plopped down to sulk. He would get his turn to run things again.
David O'Neal woke to a pounding on his door. Groaning, he grabbed his pounding head.
"God not again! What was happening to him? One minute he was crashed out on the couch. Two days later he wakes up in the chair dressed in sweats with something on his head.
Pulling the dirty bandana off his head he ran a shaking hand through his hair and stumbled to the door.
"Man you look like death warmed over!"
O'Neal glared at his visitor. "Don't start." He mumbled at his visitor.
Tyler stepped over the threshold and took in the condition of the flat. Papers strewn everywhere, half-eaten food and beer cans on every surface.
Tyler picked up an empty Carling can. Strange, David didn't drink. "Look David…" I don't know what is wrong here”, he gestured to the mess that surrounded them, "but something is going on here mate. C'apn suggested you take a bit of a holiday and get yourself sorted. You have been out of sorts for days. What is going on with you mate?"
Tyler wandered into the kitchen, returning he set his coffee on the table. He found David glaring at him. The person behind those cold hazel eyes did not belong to his partner and friend.
"Thanks for stopping by, now leave!"
It was a rather harsh command. Not at all like the soft-spoken detective, he'd come to know.
Tyler took a sip of his coffee and changed his approach. "Look mate, lets get this place cleaned up, then go for some dinner and try to sort out what is going on in that head of yours."
A dangerous smirk crossed his friend's face, and once again a total stranger was looking back at him. If he had any idea what was going through his friend's head he would have turned and run.
He followed Tyler out the door to the restaurant so he never seen it coming when Joe picked up the hammer and bashed the man's skull in.
"Damn it Joe what'd ya have to go and do that for?" Katrin yelled. "You got brains in the carpet! Never mind the questions when he doesn't show up for work. He's cop for crying out loud."
"Nope, he was a cop." Taking a drag on his cigarette, he kicked the body at his feet as he tried to decide what to do with it. "Besides he bothered me." He took another drag on his cigarette and drug the body into the bathroom. "Katrin, you can deal this with this. I tag 'em you bag 'em.
Katrin swore at Joe and headed to the garage for the chainsaw. "This is getting old Joe, I'll bag him all right. This is the last time I pull your ass out of the fire. For Christ sakes, you killed Taylor." She screamed at him. She began dismembering O'Neal's partner as she put him in large plastic trash bags before stuffing him in the freezer in the garage. "That’s it Joe you are on your own!"
The END
