What about Raven?

It's always good to know that there are still a few of us folks out there that appreciate the skill and hardcore style of Raven...who knows, maybe one day the powers that be in WWE will join us?

"What about ME!" yeah, don't we all want to know that!
One tough troubled guy, oh yes!
I always felt that when he went, it was sort of an omen for WCW...
Talking about The Darkness, aren't you taking an awful chance there with that name, bud, wasn't it enough to only READ it 3 times?

Looking at some of the names that are flying around this place I think that naming myself after the crawling chaos that is Nylarthotep is quite tame to be honest...Besides it's usually not being used and the one thing I hate is searching for a nickname on a site and finding that someone else has it...by the way, can you believe that the WWE told Raven he had to pick up his game and get in shape a few months back? The guys in his forties for goodness sake!

That whole Ctulhu thingy had me shivering in me boots, wonderful how the myth was developed starting with Lovecraft.
The WWE don't know how to employ a character nor fighting style like Raven, they're too mushy with their story lines. The Brood was fine, but lacked the final ..... edge?

Sounds about right to me, stick him the the hardcore division and hope that a lame faction appears that you can stick him in and forget about it while you figure out who Rocky's going to walk all over next. They did the same thing with Brian Pillman (rest his soul), stuck him in a dress and then stuck him with the Hart family.
The brood were nice while they lasted, but you knew that they always wanted Edge to be the next big thing at intercontinental championship level. "Hey, that guy has more teeth than the entire Osmond family, give him the belt!"

yes indeedy.
So you are a writer? What do you write? Enlarging on the Ctulhu mythos, or a saga of a wrestling family?

I've written a column in a few WWE fanzines in the past and also write short stories that try with varying degrees of sucess to comment upon the human condition, folklore and mythology and the metaphysical challenges of modern life (i.e. finding the will to get out of bed in a morning). If I can find a publisher interested in that then I reckon I'll be set up for life.
I don't think that the Mythos needs to be expanded on right now, and to progress we all have to step out of the shadow of our idols.
What do you do, o mysterious one?

me? oh i'm trying to write sword & sorcery. Tallies perfectly with wrestling. Began about four years ago, without the slightest inkling of how to write. Started out with Howard's world, but just as you say, one has to walk out of the shadow of one's idols, so now i'm busily inventing my very own alternative world .
So where can one read your stuff?

Like I said I have yet to find a forum for it and at the moment a lot of time is being taken up by work and writing my D&D campaign.
Did you hear the rumour that a studio in Hollywood wanted to shoot King Conan with Arnold as a crusty old Conan and The Rock as his son and heir?
Stranger things happen at sea...

The Rock as Conan Jr., well why not, in the books young Conn looked like becoming a bit of a sissy, not that The Rock is a sissy, but he looks like one to me, it must be the way he dresses
As you can see, i'm not a Rock fan, but i do often find him entertaining, despite myself. He did look decorative in that Scorpion king thingy.

he looked no worse than any other lump of meat that ever tried to act in a hollywood movie. I've never really been a Rocky fan either, something to do with the fact that he relies more on catchphrases and lame signature moves to get over. "Beat the Rock's ass" is always a favourite passtime on any WWE game that I own.

i agree in general, although sometimes Rocky does achieve to portrait so absurd a level of arrogance, that he has me laughing despite myself. But in movies none of the guys seem to work out for some reason, with the one glorious exception that is Arnie, but then he was only bodybuilder, or Eric A. Kramer, that ham in trash B movies, who somehow contrieved to be funny, but maybe people who do WWF storylines for years appear to be lost even for that, maybe we need a C-movie

I just saw Scorpion King, formulaic hollywood fare, unfortunatly. Rock just about manages to come out of the whole thing with his reputation intact, but the fans are booing him now.
Best wrestler turned actor for me is still Roddy Piper in "They Live."

didn't see scorpion king yet, but what you say is what i expected. Damn decorative posters and screenshots though, should have done a series of tableaus really, pity those went out of fashion long ago. Jesse Ventura did very well in Predator i thought, and also in Running man.

Prefer him in Preadator, but Running Man is sweet just fro the camp value of the characters that are hunting Arnold!

Predator has an extremely good no frills character painting, it's classic. McTiernan has shown he can do it in Die Hard and 13th warrior, it's his forte, i think. Running man is like wrestling a lot, really, gimmicks and all, and i think that was intended.

There are certainly a few people that I'd like to see do the "run" as in that film!
13th Warrior was a very good film, I'd been waiting for a good brooding blood and guts film set around that time. The book is good as well, "The Eaters of the Dead" by Michael Critchen (spelt the surname wrong, but you know, the guy who wrote Jurassic Park).
Did you see Brotherhood of the Wolf? Its a french film based on attacks by a mysterious beast on peasents in a remote region of France during the age of reason. Well acted and with some very nice, if a little out of place, martial arts combat sequences.

I haven't seen Brotherhood yet, but it's been praised to me a lot, so i guess i'll better get it soon.
Yes Eathers of the dead is good, Crichton has his points, although i have stopped reading him now, he gets the most interesting situations set up, but i find his character drawing rotten. Also, in Eaters the sex obsessed frustrated adolescent looks through (he wrote he thing in college) which made me feel quite sick at the end of the book . For those reasons 13th warrior is in my opinion one of the few movies that is better than the book it's based on. The vikings were such a superb bunch of cutthroats!I liked the matter of fact butchery and the perfectly unashamed pathos of it all!

The book is better than the film, no doubt. I loved the vikings as well and thought that the film did them (and Banderas' character) a great deal more justice. The vikings were well cast and watching the outsider slowly come to understand them and their culture lifted the film out of the trap of being simply a case of opposite forced to work together and sqaubbling for the extent of the film.
Now if someone could film Bernard Cornwell's Warlord Chronicles in the same way I'd be very happy!
