Whistling: A Diatribe...

Now, you see when it comes to REAL whistlers (Al Jolson in "The Jazz
Singer", Roger Whitaker, Otis at the end of "Dock of the Bay") I say fair play- in fact it's fairly pleasant to hear a fellow human chirping to themselves in a tuneful and unselfish manner. What REALLY gets to me is the lower end of the scale (Builders, Middle Managers, Any one who has ever dabbled in Painting and Decorating) who get my goat.
Their "technique", if you will, is the apparant lack of any real whistling talent coupled with the tragic reality that they aren't even whistling any discernable tune...it's the uncreative creativity of it all!
I fully accept that Ricky Gervais was ranting about pretty much the self same subject when he appeared on the unfunny Orwellian spoof "Room 101"- but he missed out the genesis of the "tune" that comes flooding out of the builder/middle manager/Painter and Decorators sludge hole.
Basically, if you're going to whistle. STOP and THINK.
WHAT TUNE IS IT THAT YOU WANT THE WORLD TO HEAR?
IS IT A TUNE THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CARRY?
DOES ANYONE ELSE WITHIN EARSHOT MIND THAT YOU ARE BEING QUITE SO UNSOCIABLE?
Diatribe over.
Thank you for your time.

*nods in agreement*
That is what I call a good rant.
Do you know we even have a smiley on h2g2?
We use it when we are not going to say anything, leave it to your imagination, etc. I use it a lot.
Smileys? We don't need no steenking smileys!

Cheers.
I am aware of the use of Smileys but I'm a writer and prefer the written word.
Glad you enjoyed the rant...more soon.
Don't be a stranger.
Be Seeing You.

Hey Galaxy Babe!

How d'you get your page to have all those flashing things on them?
I'm guessing you're a computer whizzkid...Am I right?
Hey aonemantidalwave!!
Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor Posted Jun 26, 2002
Wrong!
A computer whizz-kid I ain't.
Had no pc learning/tuition at all. Everything I know I learned from being on h2g2.
You start off at the Guide ML clinic.
<./>GuideML-Clinic</.>
And go from there.
Which flashing things did you mean, exactly?
The moving smileys? The BLOBs?
If you're really impressed with my personal space, you can do something similar yourself, but if you don't know Guide ML it takes a while to get used to.
I'll help you, if I can.
Just shout.
