Has anyone else heard of Bluebird? The Australian Broadcasting Company, just started a new alternant reality game. The basic premise is that a Billionaire decided that governments weren’t doing enough to combat global warming so he started a secret geo-engineering project called Bluebird. Predictably somebody blew the whistle forcing him to go public ahead of schedule. You can find it here http://www.abc.net.au/innovation/bluebird/ it looks fun

sorry I didn't see you post early it got kinda buried on my active threads list.
anyways, I unfortunately didn't get to do nearly as much with Bluebird as I would have liked so my awnseres may be a bit off but I'll give it the old college try.
how does bluebird work?
The ABC created a fake chunk of reality, contected to and with the same passage of time as our own. This chunk took the form of various fake online documents about a geoengineering project.
can people participate?
if so, how?
Yes, or at least they could while it was still running, basically they could interact with the stuff on the internet in about the same way as they could have if the thing was real. In particular one of the main characters attempted to crowd source decoding certain documents, which from what I understand ended up involving myst like puzzles.

and who is to say that fiction is not sometimes reality?

so that would have been fun to be a part of

that is not full of violence or gratuitous sex or whatnot
