A Conversation for Good Put-downs

Winston Churchill - again

Post 1

While holding a reception at Blenheim Palace, Winston found it necessary to attend to a call of nature. During this time Hore Belshia approached Winstons’s wife, Clementine to enquire as to his whereabout as he wished to talk with him. Clementine, being the dutiful wife and knowing where Winston was, said she would go and find him. Clementine went upstairs and knocked discreetly on the toilet door to inform Winston the Hore Belisha wanted to talk to him. To which Winston replied, “Tell him he will have to wait, I can only deal with one s**t at a time”

Whether the message was passed on in its unmoderated entirety is not recorded.

Dillinger

Just thought I'd mention that the Churchill and Shaw exchange is a fiction - there is, apparently, no record whatsoever of that happening. Which makes one wonder how many celebrity put-downs that were not clearly recorded, have in fact been made up by some creative nobody.
