Why 'Christmas'?
Insight Posted Nov 8, 2003
Technically true I suppose, but it's a misleading way of putting it.
There isn't really any merit on our part - ‘We are good-for-nothing slaves. What we have done is what we ought to have done.’ (Which is why Jesus said, "Why do you call me good? No-one is good except one, God." Anything that anyone other than Jehovah does isn't truly good - it's just adequate. We're just doing our duty, there is no such thing as 'above-and-beyond the call of duty' for us.)
It's by the sovereign will of God alright, but on what does he base his decision, his will? James 4:8 says, "Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you." His will is to come to whomever truly wishes to (and makes effort to) come to him, and those are whom he will save.

Hi Insight ,
Good to see you pointing out the truth Insight.
"How can Christians celebrate a festival that originates with Paganism?"
I couldn't agree more. Isn't it sad that your own festivals were so dull and unforgiving that you had to hijack ours .
Oh by the way, please don't assume that all us poor pagans are idolators. Indeed I know almost no pagans who have idols in their homes. Many of us prefer to practice our spiritual beliefs out amongst the wonders of nature and need no man made objects to comfort us, or roof to separate us from the magnificent sky.
Blessings,
