Go on, see how long you can resist the cake:
Hello, welcome to h2g2! My name's Dr E Vibenstein (but you can call me EV, everyone else does). I'm one of the Assistant Community Editors, so if you need any advice on anything h2g2 related, feel free to ask!
If you want to know more about what you can do now you're an h2g2 researcher, have a look at the <./>Welcome</.> page, or if you're just looking for somewhere to go, try the "Read" and "Talk" buttons which will direct you to interesting places. You can also click on the h2g2 logo in the top left corner; this will take you back to the front page, which gets updated daily with all the latest goodies.
As you may know, before his death Douglas Adams was actively involved with the h2g2 site - his own space is still around at U42. It would be a fitting tribute to his vision if you could be strong-willed enough to contribute something to the guide - try searching for some topics that interest you, and if there are no current entries on those topics, you could fill the gap by writing one yourself. If you're interested, check the Writing-Beginners and EditedGuide-Guidelines pages for an idea of what we're looking for.
Thanks for joining h2g2, have fun!

dear VE, it was great to hear from you. thank you very much for making me feel so welcome in this space! despite the fact that i am exceedingly weakwilled, there is a pressing matter that is gnawing at my conscience and is compeling me to write. it seems that the twisted and tortured land of the indo-pak subcontinent is bent upon self-destruction. i realize that i may not be able to do much to stop the unthinkable from happening, but perhaps, just perhaps, WE together may be able to do something....
i do not yet know what that something might be. perhaps a group of concerned individuals, including, both indians and pakistanis (incidentally i'm a pakistani living in london) could get together and somehow use the world media to convey a message of peace to all who may listen - particularly the-powers-that-be in delhi and islamabad ?? perhaps we should visit the capitals...
but most importantly, we need to change the opinion of the man in the street in pakistan as well as india. it appears that the war hysteria gripping the two countries has blinded the people to the reality of their mutually assured destruction. do you think there is a way to show them that better things await if peace prevails ??
perhaps others in the h2g2 community can throw some ideas at this most intractable of problems...
i look forward to hearing from someone
alternating between dread and dispair - yours truly,
weakwilled.

Don't worry, I answer to most things...
I think Arthur Dent said it best when he observed, "So this is it. We're going to die." Not that you'd know it from watching the news, as it's clearly not as important as either the Queen's jubilee or the World Cup.
I've been on h2g2 for a while and I think there are a lot of us who would support that kind of campaign... can I suggest you go to <./>Askh2g2</.> and post a similar message there? That way more people are likely to see it and respond.
