h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I can't post this to Facebook, as he's obviously among my contacts, but K has the cutest "conceptual" birthday thing going for my ( ) 40th in about six weeks.

40 albums in 40 days. He's picked up, and will continue to pick up, used LPs by bands I like, and will purchase a total of 40.

There's apparently something else closely related he's off discussing with someone at some place at this very moment, but he promises it does not involve being publicly humiliated. I'm not into making a big fuss about myself- this will be the first birthday I can remember in my lifetime having more than one day involved in any way. I hate those "birthday week/month/year" people, or anyone who does that "My Special Day" thing about just about any day at all.

My dad will be here, too- at least May 9-12, so I am taking the 10th and 11th off work so my dad, my uncle, K and I can all spend quality time and dine at some fun establishments.

Also, apparently I don't have to wait till the actual day to receive the albums- he's already presented me with two. I'm to get one a day, except for some days, so that I've received 40 by then.

Where the hell am I to put them? We already need to move for lack of space...

It *is* a cool birthday present!

I wonder if he'll start tearing his hair out for starting it when he's bought 34 or so.

According to the receipt he left on the kitchen table, he's already got 15.

So far I've gotten a Psychedelic Furs 12" single and a Level 42 album. I suspect there may be a Godfathers album in there, too, because a couple weekends ago I saw one in the used album bin at Planet Of Sound and he asked me why I didn't get it and I had no god reason...

I'm sure he'll get 40, maybe towards the end they may get a bit random, but we all the time buy albums by bands we've never heard of, just to "investigate".

And the other thing was apparently a cake. He asked for flavor and filling preferences. I am assuming it is a local bakery run by a friend of our friend who owns our favorite bar (as much as people who don't drink and only spin records for the crowd have a favorite bar).

Also excited about my dad being in town again. I can't wait to drag him to a couple more favorite places we have dragged my uncle to fairly recently. I always love seeing my dad. I miss him, so far away (2000+ miles).

I also shouldn't make it sound like Planet of Sound has a used album bin.. they have a bin for CDs and one for new releases, but 3/4 of the store is lovely used vinyl.
