h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

They've started adding embedded video clips to edited Guide entries. I'm assuming this means that once they work past any issues, they'll start implementing them in new entries when available. Web pages with video embedded are blocked at my workplace; web sites with lots of pages with video are blocked entirely.

If that happens I won't be able to visit h2g2 much at all.

One of the things I liked most about h2g2 was the lack of intensive graphics, embedded video, widgets, etc. But I guess it was inevitable.

But it's still a BBC site. Can you access BBC news? There's embedded video on there, too.

I believe I have been able to access some BBC News pages, but not all. I'll have to see what happens. I definitely can't view the video- no biggie, I don't particularly mind one way or the other- but I'll keep my fingers crossed that our web site blocking program doesn't decide to lock me out completely.


Today's a day for me to assume the worst about stuff, so I'm doing my best to continue to do so.

Let's hope you'll be able to access h2g2 in general and will just have to do without watching videos.

I wouldn't panic yet, PC. It will mainly be Edited Guide Entries that have embedded video, I expect, and given the time it takes to write them, put them through Peer Review and provide video clips, I can't see the site suddenly being covered with them overnight.

When they started letting people send photos in to illustrate entries, it didn't turn into Flickr - they are still few and far between.

Good point, KB. Worst case scenario then would be I just have to wait to read an Edited Guide entry from home, if it intrigued me (I admit to not reading all of them ). I'm not sure what the absolute threshold is where a whole site gets blocked (excepting certain kinds, like photo hosting and social networking sites, which I can't access at all... except for Facebook, for which our IT people gave me a special dispensation...) but I imagine it's not a handful of video.

I can't view entries with photos in them, either.
