My dad's been in town this week. We saw him on Sunday, had dinner at my grandma's last night with my dad and uncle and gram. Today I took a personal day off work and my dad, K and I had lunch and walked around in the neighborhood just east of us where my dad grew up. It's been fun! He should be back again in the spring, so I'm glad I've had some time to hang out with him.

One of K's friends died earlier this week. He was in his early forties and apparently had a stroke. We hadn't seen him in a while- I think K visited him last summer and I hadn't seen him in three years.

No big plans for the weekend. We'd had an outing in mind, but it's been postponed, and probably for the best, since we're supposed to have rain (possibly of the freezing sort).

And I found a nifty gift for my boss for Christmas, for just $2, at the Uncle Fun (vintage toy shop).

They're doing some sort of street repair right in front of our place, so it's been a bit noisy off and on. Herman is not amused. It's not enough to really bother either K or me.

Happy Friday, and have a great weekend, everyone.

It's always a shock when someone under 85 dies, in my experience. Heck. It shouldn't happen, should it?

I am glad that your dad turned up, and that you could take a day off to spend with him, and that he left his excess baggage at home. smiley - winkeye

Tell me about it. It's much nicer overall when the people present all like each other and get along.

K may be driving down to Indiana for the wake tomorrow. Depends whether he can carpool with someone who's not spending the night down there.

I'm glad you had a good time with your dad: sounds to me as if it's one of those visits you won't easily forget for all the right reasons.

I've been busy trying to get things ready for a week away with the kids. No big worries about my op - according to the doc it sounds as if it will be routine.

I hope the op goes well, Woodpigeon. Fingers, toes, etc crossed.

A week away from your kids, though... smiley - wah

This was an enjoyable visit with my dad and has made me very happy. I miss him sometimes, so far away.

A week away with the kids! It'll be great. Just doing last-minute preps at the moment.

I'm getting two more moles removed - on my back this time. They've been caught early though so I'm not worried too much. I don't expect a repeat of what happened a year ago.

Bumped into a guy last week - a South African. He looks at my neck and says "hey buddy, where did you get the scar?" I say that I had an op last year and he says "Oh, for a minute I thought you had visited my country - tons of guys there sporting scars from assaults.." - ouch!

I always claim mine's a battle scar from swordfighting, but that doesn't seem so funny anymore now...

I'm not sure why I read that as a week away *from* your kids, not *with* your kids, Woodpigeon. Maybe I had "away from" on the brain since my dad's heading back home today...

I have a decent-sized scar from my car accident all those years ago. I wear my bangs long enough to cover it, but when people do see it and ask, all I can say is that the windshield said it was shatterproof and I wanted to test it to make sure.

And please don't anyone ever apologize for "taking over" a journal of mine. The most interesting conversations are the ones that head off on a course all their own. Till now I didn't realize how many of us had battle scars!

He says he hopes to come back in May, so at least it won't be years before I see him like it was this past spring.

That's how I feel about seeing my mom- the less often, the better. I try to get along, but she's just too unstable.

Not that I'm anti american, but I do appreciate that the Queen Mum is residing on that side of the pond... Her semiannual visits are more than enough. Next one is scheduled after New Year, and I've already started to grow weary.
