Rain rain go away

I hate to complain, given the situation in Texas, but we've had another record rainfall here, and flooding all over the neighborhood. Runoff from the roof and fascia is leaking around two of the windows- one in the living room and the one in this little room with the computer in it. I won't tell you want sort of things I've got wedged around the venetian blinds... let's just say they're the most absorbent things I had on hand. smiley - laugh But we had to wipe down all of the DVD cases and the top edge of a couple of books got wet. smiley - cross Plus the dripping noise is making me pee every 20 minutes...

It's not a massive flood in the house or anything, but it's been a significant enough amount of water to fill 2 inches of a 6-inch flower pot. smiley - erm And we'll have to wash two sets of blinds, the fabric on one of which may be permanently slightly discolored, four windows and a couple of walls.

Plus we can't go anywhere. The trains are running again after they cleared flood waters from the tracks, but a lot of the streets just east of us are closed.

I wish the stupid rain would stop.

If I suddenly go offline it probably means the walls have fallen in on me and the computer has been washed away in the deluge.

I'll take 'em! smiley - laugh

The water coming in is really aggravating.

But not wanting to go anywhere has left us with lots of time to fart around, in between wiping trickles of water.

We don't live anywhere near the Des Plaines river, which is set to crest sometime tomorrow, but we're less than a mile west of the Chicago River so a lot of the streets are full of runoff and many viaducts are flooded.

At least we're not in as bad shape as Texans are now. Our cousins evacuated from Houston late last week and hopefully are on higher ground. Hopefully all Texan hootooers are safe and have homes to return to.

So I really shouldn't be moaning about some leaking windows (except for the nagging fear that someday the ceiling is going to cave in on us...).

Dripping sounds always make me have to pee. Hopefully that didn't make you laugh so hard that you had to, as well. smiley - winkeye

Hey if I didn't laugh at the absurdity of it all I'd probably lose my temper...

It hopefully won't be that bad- and at least it missed the electric outlets, etc.

One would think that K would have been more amused by my ingenious and strategic use of various feminine hygiene products than he was was. I thought it was inspired.

Well you are due some frustrating feelings!

I too feel bad for the folks of Texas and throughout the flooding areas. It is terrible how price gouging on gas started for the very people travelling north.smiley - crossI hope that has ended.

Since it is not a contest,I feel for you too, not easy!

Snow would probably be more fun.
That will come soon enough!

Who do we know down there? The only person I know (still) in Tx is Lentilla, but she's way up in Fort Worth.

I don't know anyone personally. I did check with Gosho, who said he's far enough away that it wasn't cause for much concern. But a hootooer named Count Zero lives in Houston; I don't know him at all but I hope he'll have a home to come home to.

PC, you should say Rain Rain go to Spain, that's the rhyme, is it not?

and here it's always wellcome.

Also you can sing a song from the Credence and the Water Revival: " and I wonder, still I wonder... Who'll stop the rain" at least it is a good song.
Or...
I'm singing under rain, or " rain drops are falling on my head"...
just to keep you amusedsmiley - biggrin

Well, the stupid leaking has finally stopped, as has most of the residual dripping. I hope. They just painted the outside wood trim and masonry last summer so one would think any structural problems would've been noticed. We're hoping this was a fluke on account of the duration of the downpour and the strong winds.

But if it happens again next time it rains, we may have to start apartment hunting. That'd kill me- I love this place. But I don't want it to collapse on me.

Stealth cat cracked K and me up. What a cutie.
