Enjoying my time off!

I've have fun during my week off work. Tomorrow is the last "real" day of my vacation. Sunday afternoon is K's party, and then it's back to normal life on Monday.
I think K's enjoyed my time off, too, since it meant I could make more labor-intensive meals this week. I've made a tofu satay (damn, do I make good peanut sauce!) with veggie fried rice, Quorn tikka masala (with my homemade rhubarb chutney), and couscous with veggies (onion, carrot, zucchini, green bell pepper, tomato, veggie stock, fresh cilantro, ground cardamom, caraway seeds and turmeric). And I made one of my fantastic vegan carrot cakes for K, since he'll have to share his birthday cake on Sunday.
I've been somewhat productive- cleaned up the mp3 collection and added more stuff to my Zen. Dusted everything and washed floors. And lots of snuggle time with Herman.
Looking forward to movie birthday bash- K's parents, an aunt and one cousin are coming, too. I made a CD of tunes for them to play while we eat our cake. K's mom sent me a birthday baby photo of K and I added some captions and a "frame" that looks like film stock, so we can embarrass the birthday boy big time before the film begins. And we put together 32 goodie bags!

Sounds like you're lovely and relaxed! Long may it last.

Thanks
I find that even after just a few days home from work, not necessarily doing much or going anywhere, but just taking some time to relax, I go back to work feeling less annoyed at the things that annoy me (namely a handful of stupid people, which can be as amusing as annoying, really). Plus I got out of doing my quarterly financial reports because they weren't ready for me on time- someone else will have done them in my absence.

Thanks!
Was out on the back porch this morning and noticed a pile of storage bins teetering, ready to tip. Argh. K and I will have to do an intervention this weekend, and he really does have to haul the cartons from the Dyson and the TV out to the trash and get them off the landing already. I've finally listed the Nordic Trak with Freecycle, since I just don't have space to set it up in here and if we move someplace bigger, I want a Bowflex stepper-treadmill thingy instead. I'll list the stationary bike and the old PC next, and then all of the clutter out there will be gone. Called the Purple Heart charity, since they're the only local outfit that does pickups, and asked them to come and get the half dozen bags of stuff I'd like to donate.
I'm so tired of my home always being so cluttered, but we just don't have much space (just 1500 sq ft) and Herman likes to knock things over.
The other thing I've done today is played around a bit with a new computer RPG game we got. The game isn't new- it's a couple years old- but it's new to us. "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth". It's pretty cool.
Still no sign of my replacement debit card, and I can't get the lady at the Chicago Diner to call me back about the payment info for the birthday cake, so I guess K and I will have to go over there and pick it up ourselves instead of my friend who lives around the corner from there doing it for me. Sigh.

Wow, I listed the NordicTrak and the stationary bike yesterday and within 30 minutes both items were claimed. People are coming today at 11:00 and noon to pick them up. Hurrah!
Now if I could only get in touch with the bakery about updating the debit card info for the cake.

Bummer that you have to work today. If you lived a few hours closer, you could come, too.
I'll post sometime tomorrow, if I can't get back online this evening, and let you all know how it went. Might be a tiny bit busy my first day back after vacation, but it might not all hit me right away. Though I expect it'll take hours just to go through all my mail.

This is weird.
I've been back at the office for FIVE hours and no one has asked me for anything or produced any actual work for me. All I've done is the reports I would have done on any other Monday morning (they get bigger at the end of the month, but it only took a couple of hours).
I expected so much more.
And someone brought my mail down from my mail slot upstairs and stuck it right in my in tray. How kind of them.

Enjoy it while it lasts! When you are out of things for a few days, people begin to cope without you. It usually takes a few days before the whirlwind starts up again..

Really? When I come back in, people are telling me never to take time off again...
I would have love to have come..the thought is there...!

A couple people did demand that I never take off again... I tend to grab the mail for all the offices on this side of the suite when I get my own mail. Poor things had to go up and get their own last week, much to their dismay. That, and the poor girl who offered to handle emergency maintenance in my absence and had to call to have the toilet unplugged four times.

Oh, tell me about it. Earlier this year I had an incident with an overflowing urinal. Maintenance had to pull the thing off the wall and rout out the pipes. Some genius had flushed an entire box or so worth of paper clips. Is this an office or a day care center?

Woodpigeon Posted Jul 29, 2008
Now why would someone throw paperclips down a urinal? Hiding the stash for a future global war? Likes to hear the tinkling sound on the way down? Art? The possibilities, I guess, are endless..

While I don't want to speculate as to what someone might be doing in the bathroom that would require paper clips, I suppose someone could have brought some work to do while they did their business. But as for flushing them? Your guess is as good as mine.
Actually, my guess is that someone is an idiot who doesn't clean up after himself at home and just didn't give a shit that someone else would have to.
But hiding a stash for a future global war is my *preferred* scenario!

The mind boggles, perhaps s/he had them in a pocket and they fell out - and well didn't want to retrieve them....
I like the practicing piercing theory...tho.... mebbe they were trying them on....see how many they could fit on...

She? Why would a *woman* be flushing paperclips down a urinal?
Enjoying my time off!
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Aug 2, 2008
I'm pretty sure it would've been a "he", yeah.
But why would a man be flushing paper clips down a urinal?
That's the most exciting maintenance-related incident I've had in quite a while, but I'm sure someone else will come along and top it sometime soon.

Did he have a bad time with Office Assistant and needed to get it out of his system??
