Hi, all, I need to play catch-up with the backlog again, but I'm not sure how long I'll be online this evening. I wanted to pop on and leave a journal entry about my long holiday weekend, and will reply to you all as soon as I can. I had a really bad charley horse last night, so K and I got only three hours of sleep our last night of the long "campout". I'm really sleepy today.

So, Wednesday night I had movie night, and we watched "Cannes Man". We crashed by K's. Unfortunately, the weather was horrible, so although we were dismissed from work early, when we got to the car, the battery was dead. We got a jump, then spent quite a while out in the snowy/rainy mix, installing a shiny new battery. Then we crashed by K's, totally exhausted.

Thursday we went by my grandma's for Thanksgiving dinner. It was really good, and a great time. My gram gave me a bunch of old planters so Friday we hung around my place, repotting house plants, washing clothes, and playing Scrabble.

Friday we watched "Pod People" and dog-sat. Saturday we went out for an Italian dinner, then popped by the record store K used to manage and I got a couple of cool CDs: a double CD of Alex Chilton's "Like Flies On Sherbert" and "Live in London" (for only $9!), and the Mekons "Heaven & Hell". I also got a bottle of ungodly hot sauce in a bottle that looks like the Grim Reaper.

Yesterday we just hung out, made pizzas for dinner with K's roommates, and talked about stuff.

That was the extent of my thrilling holiday. Keep hoping and praying and sending me magic regarding the "roommate" situation: I want what will be best for everyone, not just myself, but if I could have what I truly want, it would be for K and Herman to stay here with me.

Okay off to grab some dinner and read as many postings from the past few days as possible. smiley - run

*very smug*

I reckon i have got myself the perfect room mate in RK, he is a good mate, into all the sort of stuff i am BUT since he is millions of years younger, has own social scene, so no conflict of interests there; but plenty of mutual understanding!

We've had a great time, showing him the delights of dear old Angoulême, including this weekend the Gastronomades festival, which involves prowling round tents giving away vast quantities of free smiley - bubblysmiley - redwinesmiley - stiffdrink...oh; & food also, such as foie gras & marzipan suckling pigs & LOTS of smiley - choc stuff (Cat in 7th heaven with the lsat one!)

Did a sunday brunch scene here yesterday, feeding the 5000 bit good fun

happy little household except smiley - silly terri insisted on dancing wildly the other night & seems to have...er...damaged her ankle rather badly. Will find out tomorrow if it's actually broken;smiley - erm

anyway, better go smiley - zzz i suppose, been working tonight on MSN with Ollie-wooh trying to sell houses, that little froggie works far too hard, needs his bum smacking & sending to bed if you ask me (which he didn't, but sod it, i will tell him anyway!smiley - evilgrin

smiley - cheers

Thanks, Vix! Hi Terri & JEllen, too, and thanks for taking the time to say hello.

Just got in from work and popping into the little grocery for some stuff to make dinner. I'm whipping up a sweet potato/garbanzo/jicama curry with golden raisins. Wish I had a bottle of white wine, maybe will run out while the rice is cooking but before K arrives.

Still no photos of K, uncle's digicam wasn't functional at the time. Grrr! I'm going to pester him again tonight and see what we can come up with, soon. It's hardly fair: all of his close friends have already met me. At least you guys should see what the guy *looks* like, if you can't meet in person.

Off to reply to a couple of others before I start the dinner.

What's jicama?

smiley - yikes adding raisins, smiley - yuk, sorry i am of the school of thought of never bunging fruity bits into savoury stuff, so is RK; luckily we seem to see eye to eye on food things (as well as most other stuff) though he isn't veggie, so satisfies his bloodlust with delightful things like crabstix, which we all know have never been withing nipping distance of the sea!

We are in total agreement that god exists, otherwise mayonnaise would not be on the planet*the concept of too much mayonnaise on a sandwich is an oxymoron; even oxymorons taste Ok when smothered in mayonnaise*

Hi PC, thought I'd pop on for a bit while waiting for K to call.

Raisins in savory! Well I approve.

Jicama is a sweet root vegatable. They look sort of like large potatoes but taste like well, I can't describe the flavor. Slightly sweet and watery. They have a consistancy sort of like water chestnuts. They are very good.

Yeah, jicama is sort of like a potato crossed with a water chestnut crossed with a turnip, texture-wise. Yummo! Curry was wonderful!

Watched the first Harry Potter and a couple eps of Red Dwarf... K will be on his way home soon and I'll be off to bed. I'll be on when I get home, for a bit, though!

Hellbound, did K call? Let me know how it went, please?

Edward the Bonobo - Gone.

In the UK (and possibly elsewhere in Europe), jicamas sometimes go under the name of christophenes. They can be bought in West Indian and African shops.

Good morning, everyone!

Hi Terri, Edward, JEllen, Hellbound. It looks like I'm going to be late for work again: I overslept (although I fell right into bed after K headed out at 10:30, I think I'm still behind sleepwise from Sunday night's leg cramps), and now I'm dawdling. At least I already have my lunch- some of last night's curry should ensure that not too many people torment me at work today. smiley - winkeye

Glad to hear that things went well with K, Hellbound! I hope to hear more of the same! smiley - evilgrin

Gotta smiley - run, will pop on when I get back from work for a bit.

That last sentence was totally wrong. During the winter, I get to be home from work for more than just a bit. smiley - winkeye
