Well, I made it through another week! And with very little excitement- just the way I like it! (Last week proved to be a bit *too* exciting, after all) I did work six hours today, and spent a good part of the afternoon tidying up, but I sat down around 4:30 or 5:00, ordered some Chinese, poured a glass of Pino Grigio, and just devoured "The Da Vinci Code". What a spectacular book! (Thanks, JEllen, for recommending it, I LOVED it!!)
30 minutes till Dead Ringers, and then I think it's time for bed- I'm wiped out.
Needless to say, the treats I got for myself using some of my tax money arrived yesterday. I watched the first two episodes of Red Dwarf last night, which was fun. I fell asleep really early, with a little help from Ravi Shankar ("Chants Of India", what a gorgeous CD!) and some wickedly good Nag Champa sticks I discovered at, of all places, the little liquor store down the street. I also indulged in a little cooking, nothing fancy, just a quesadilla that I stuffed with tomato (and Krispy, my love, it's pronounced toe-MAY-toe! ), onion, coriander, and heaps of jalapeno. It was simple, but fabulous! I haven't cooked much lately, and let me tell you, it was *very* therapeutic! Oh, how I've missed cooking! I've planned a scathingly brilliant yellow curry for tomorrow's dinner, chock full of sweet potato and golden raisins. MMMMM!!!
As an aside, I received what I perceived to be a somewhat disturbing email from my mother on Wednesday, of course over-reacted in my usual fashion, and the result was one hell of a spat. Via email, of course, which makes things that much worse! My mother has a habit of saying things, then backpedaling later. Whether it's misunderstanding on my part, or damage control after the fact on hers, I'm not sure. My sister phoned me that night, after talking to her and IM-ing with me, and it looks like we've got things sorted, either way. I haven't attempted any phone calls yet, but have had fairly friendly email contact with my mother over the past few days. If only she'd express a bit of interest in how the immigration stuff is coming, or in Krispy at all, other than to tell me I'm being used for a Green Card. *sigh* Time will tell, I suppose. If my parents care for me at all, they're going to have to learn to be a bit more supportive once in a while!
I'm believe I'm willing to give them that chance.

In my experience most people do not learn to be more supportive after 30 or 40 years old.
You can only learn to drop your high expectations of them.
It still hurts but it's better than setting yourself up for dissapointment.
Anything you do get will be gravy!
Sad but true much of the time.
Of course I could be way off not knowing your parents at all.
Shame for you to hear this romance is about a green card!
I hope they will be more supportive in the future.

Ooooo, that just burns me to hear your parents say that about Krispy. Grrrrrr. Well that is good that you are trying to get along with them PC, even though they are acting like that.
Glad you enjoyed The Davinci Code; I've just started Angels and Demons, by the same author. It also starts with an unusual murder, that hooks you right into the story.
I hate to bring this up PC, but did you decide not to send me a Valentine?
Next time we IM, you'll have to tell me what color beads you want on your braclet and necklace. I saw some pretty multicolored stars.

Tell her she can use me as a new means by which to treat you like dirt, and you can use her for videos; then everybody's sorted.
Classy that she would automatically assume that my interest in you is purely utilitarian. Speaks volumes for her attitude to relationships, Britons, and you.
I'd *really* like to talk to her soon.

!
JEllen, your Valentine is sitting on my desk with all the other mail I forgot to send this week. I swear, sometimes I have the short-term memory of a toothpick! Well, now I feel like the north end of a horse walking south.
When I spoke with my sister- who, incidentally, seemed quite interested in hearing about Krispy and has stated that we're both always welcome to visit and crash in her guest room- she said that from what she understands, my parents' initial reaction came from surprise at my suddenly having a fiance who no-one had met or even heard of yet. Of course, I didn't say anything to anyone, because I was afraid of the reaction I'd get. My mother has sarcasm down pat, but has no tact. I feel it's partly my responsibiity to try to bring them into the loop. If the end result is the same attitude, then at least I've tried and it isn't my fault.
Part of their irritation with me is that they are storing a lot of my stuff in their garage, and record a lot of videos for me, and I don't communicate with them at all. Believe it or not, I can understand that, and would like for them not to feel as if I'm ignoring them out of spite. If that makes any sense!
Krispy, I'll let you talk to her after I've determined whether you're supposed to be nice to her, or give her holy hell.

I hit "post" instead of "preview".
Abbi, you're right about lowering my expectations. It would make what I do get seem all the better. You're not off base, you might not know my parents but you know me pretty well by now, and I didn't get this messed up all on my own!
Thing is, I can't complain that they're not being supportive, when I'm being completely dismissive. I think maybe I should give them some rope. If they hang themselves with it, so be it, but at least I've tried.
I hate to think that they would judge Krispy on account of not thinking much of me, or because my first marriage turned out so badly. I'm a pretty good person, and I have exquisite taste. That's why Krispy is the perfect partner and complement for me.
JEllen, I loved Demons & Angels. I hope Dan Brown will write more books with Robert Langdon in them, they're fascinating. I love all of the history, symbology, and mysticism!
I you guys! Thanks

I hadn't thought of it that way, Abbi. Maybe if neither Krispy or I let them hurt us, they'll find something else that doesn't irritate me so much!
JEllen, I just realized why I hadn't mailed your Valentine yet... I don't have your snail mail adress.

"Maybe if neither Krispy or I let them hurt us"
Let them keep that one!then they do not have find another way! I am sure Krispy loves you very much and that is what's important. This is no easy process to get through. I hope things are progressing on getting him there! Glad to hear he likes his new job
