Yes, my 'pod can work with audiobook formats - although so far the only ones I've got are mp3 (Vonnegut, TS Eliot, Howard Zinn, Anthony Burgess). I shall have to search for more stuff...except I only ever seem able to find Tom Clancy-ish stuff.

I need to track down some good audiobooks for my grandma, as she's too blind these days (even after the corneal transplants) to read even large-print books.
It's sounding more and more like I need to get me an iPod as well. Perhaps after the new computer arrives- regarding which I can safely say just what the butcher said when he caught his unit in the meat grinder... "it won't be long now!"
Oh, and we also need to upgrade our hi-fi. So maybe the iPod will have to wait. Especially as I already have a perfectly expensive mp3 player.

I have just acquired a Scarlet Begonia as mentioned in Grateful Dead song & been grassed up to passing nuns that i am Murdering Flowers because they don't appreciate Good days Sunshine.
I also hacked my succuLent, which could easily have religious connotations. And hurled my pot to the ground in frustration. I am managing to offend most social groups here.

iPods probably aren't the best - or best value - players. I was swayed by the fact that they're certainly the coolest! I love that scroll wheel.

I tend to prefer function to form. Which is why I look the way I do.
Anyway, the new computer will be very "entertainment media" friendly, so I may upgrade the mp3 player eventually.
By the time I get to work this morning, my pants are going to be very dusty. (Oh, by pants, I mean "trousers", for the non-USAnians). Herman's playing this game he has, where he swats his fuzzy toy mouse under the couch then howls at it, so I'll retrieve it for him. If I'm not fast enough, he rolls onto his back and scoots along the underside of the couch with his claws... it makes a terrible racket. Not to mention the thumping, scrabbling, and meowing he's doing. Sheesh.
Oh, gawd, he's whining loudly, which means "mommie, come fetch my mousie AGAIN!"
I've gotta jet and get myself to work- it's past 6:30 and I'm still here!

What I'm needing is a new amp to plug the 'Pod into. The current one must be at least 30 years old. It starts crackling sometimes and you have to tap the knobs to stop it.
Uh-hurrrr uh-hurrrrr u-hurrrr. He said 'knob'!

At least you're not in as bad of shape as we are. Kelly's knob falls off when it's not handled with the utmost care.
I am, of course, referring to the amp.
Our entire hi-fi system- receiver, casette deck, amp, CD player- needs upgrading, as does the pre-amp for the turntable. It'll take some time. I was thinking middle of the road for the actual components (Sony or something of equal quality), and a good amp. I've picked a Harman Kardon amp out. It's about $700, so not too extravagant.
I had a kick ass old Harman Kardon system but the former roommate from hell, Penguin Killer, had it trashed within four months of moving in, so when he left, I let him take it. Somehow, he's managed to knock the laser thingy on the CD player out of whack, and spilled coffee all over the receiver. He only reimburned me $600 for the whole system.

Uh-hurrr uh-hurrr uh-hurrr...she said 'Harman Kardon'
I'm a great believer in inexpensive hi-fi. I doubt my ears are good enough to appreciate the good stuff ('Never serve your guest a better wine than he can appreciate' - Clement Freud). Also...my listening situation and habits aren't really conducive to getting the best out of it. Just so long as the dials go up to 11!
Seems a bit of a waste when I live about half a mile from the Linn Audio factory.

Ah, yes...haven't got around to buying that yet. Hmmm...I wonder whether his Radio 4 interview is still online...now that I've made my first contribution to the Linux community with a guide to capturing internet radio streams...

Some moron has already yikesed your entry, Edward.
This is exactly why I've set up the blog site. It's invite only, so no lurking losers.

I think next trick is going to be using the same technique to produce full colour pornographic pictures.

If you can pull that off (no pun intended), I'd love to see it!!

with intense interest.
I had a very nice Marshall by the way, but the knobs fell off when the ex of my ex hurled it down the stairs.

He wasn't Marsall Mathers, was he? Did the real Slim Shady stand up?
Yes...I *know* I've done this one on my recipe blog, but it bears repeating...
I bumped into Eminem a while back. I was sitting on a bench in the park doing doing the crossword and he came and sat down next to me. I said to him 'Can you think of a synonym for anenome, Eminem?'

That Marshall amp sounded sweet, Terri. I remember when you were originally inquiring as to any potential buyers... if not for the exorbitant costs of shipping such a cumbersome item, we'd have snatched that baby right up. And thought of you every time it was plugged in.
I cut out of work at 4:00 today, after a dead slow week. I'm sure that sometime next week, and definitely the beginning of the following week, I'll be swamped with work.
