I wonder if there's some way it could be recorded for you in a format that works on American machines.
...Anyone?

Jaysus! What a waste of good music! Morrisey must be turning in his grave.
(btw...recording for a US machine is simple, in these days of DVD-Rs. Not that I have one. Or would consider watching it.)
Oh, Manchester, so much to answer for...

I think it sounds like good clean fun. Can i audition for the part of that slutty type Mary who did the foot washing stuff? Have own flannel & soft soap.
I generally go for guys who look like Jesus, long hair & long suffering expressions & much moaning about how nasty Papa was to them in their hour of need.
Not volunteering to roll stones away from caves though. Will turn up for last supper, so long as there is a vegetarian option & he's still doing the "water into"trick. Personally, i would never consider crucifying someone with such a useful skill.

I thought it sounded like it'd be entertaining.
Unfortunately, my PC doesn't have a DVD drive as of yet. I'm undecided whether to upgrade the PC first (at which time I'll be sure to get a DVD drive as well), or purchase a region free player. I only have a couple of DVDs my machine can't play... might be better to upgrade the PC.

She's got a very good point there!

How is it possible to use a DVD writer to record something off the telly I thought they could only be used with computers.
Manchester Madrigal!
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Jan 29, 2006
There are DVD recorders which record from television. I know a few people who have one of those. I would like to get a DVD recorder very much, but I think a new PC is going to prove to be a more pressing need.

Those are the ones I meant...They're as cheap as £79 at the moment. This is why Dixons (note to USAnians - major electrical goods retailer) are no longer selling VHS recorders.
Then again...you *can* record from a TV with a TV-card and a DVD-R drive.

I'm hoping that I can persuade some kind person to copy some of my VHS tapes onto DVD soon. Certainly Psychocandy needs to see and hear John Peel in person. I'm fairly sure he'll be entirely different to whatever mental image she has from his taste in music.

I'm itching to see those, Edward. I've seen photos of him, I've heard his taste in music (we actually own all of the Peel Sessions albums, excepting New Order , Microdisney , and I think that Elton John did some sessions? ). I'll have to see if I can track something down and check it out...
As for this particular event, although I'm not a big fan of New Order or the Happy Mondays et. al. (the only Factory Records band I really recall blowing me away was A Certain Ratio- their stuff sometimes sounds similar to Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Volataire and even Gang of Four-ish at times...), it sounds like fun?
And I always enjoy a nice blasphemy.

Eek!
I'll have you know that I'm one of the few Microdisney fans in the world. In fact...I was only listening to their Peel sessions album the other day. Never was a fan of New Order, though. What was best about Peel wasn't so much the attention he gave to acts that later made it big (yes...Elton John did sessions...and Rod Stewart and The Faces) - but more the attention he gave to bands that went absolutely nowhere. Like 'Death By Milkfloat' or 'Bastard Kestrel' or '14 Iced Bears'.
By the way...you must tell K that EMF weren't from Manchester. I think they were from Epping (north of London).
Interesting Microdisney factoid: Their distributor objected to the title of their album, 'We Hate You South African Bastards.' So they changed it...to 'We Hate You White South African Bastards.'

My favorite Peel Sessions are Stiff Little Fingers and the Buzzcocks. K favors the sessions with The Ruts.
The Rod Stewart ones I think we can continue to give a miss, as well.
I don't think I've ever heard of "Bastard Kestrel" or those other two you mentioned. It'd be really interesting to check some of those sessions with bands that went "nowhere" out.

I need more Stiff Little Fingers... I have ONE cd from my dad and that's it. I don't even know what the title is but that's definately not because it's a burnt cd. I would never own one of those.

>>The Rod Stewart ones I think we can continue to give a miss, as well.
Admittedly Peel's judgement may have been a little skewed by his friendship with the band...but it has to be recognised that, before he achieved knicker-throwing stardom, Rod was a proper musician.
I really need to find some way of playing my vinyl. I can't remember completely how many Peel 12" eps I have. The Specials one is good. And, yes, the SLF ome is essential. Does anyone remember 'Stump'?
How much is the fish?/ How much is the chips?/ How much is the fish?/ Does the fish have chips?/....In blubbery Burberry, baby...

That page has just reminded me of the wonderful name of their ep/ record label: 'A Fierce Pancake.'

And for bonus points:
Who released 'Ukrainski Vistupi V Johna Peela'?
Manchester Madrigal!
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Feb 6, 2006
The Wedding Present.
Haven't listened to them in ages (and no, I don't think we have the Ukrainian Peel Sessions, though I should check the vinyl...). I remember they did good covers of Orange Juice and Go-Betweens songs.
I must also get a way of playing the vinyl. *note to self: replace turntable stylus*

I knew I could count on you! The vinyl for that is still sitting in the passenger footwell of my shitheap car.
