The Safety Car

This needs a rethink, but I can't come up with anything better at the moment.
The problem is this: you've spent the first quarter of the race building up a commanding lead, then something nasty happens, such as an accident, or like today some nutter of a spectator wandering about the course during the race. They call the safety car out while the crash/nutter is removed, then the safety car goes back into the pits and the race starts again. But all those people over whom you had that nice commanding lead are now right up your chuff again having done nothing to deserve it. Where's the justice in that? To my mind it's no good saying that they should be good enough for that not to worry them, but that's not the point. It's like deducting goals from a team that's gone 4-0 up in half an hour because of a pitch invasion. Someting needs to be done that will enable drivers to keep the lead that they've built up.
