Curious to know why you would keep almost empty bottles of nail varnish, but I am pleased to hear it because it goes some way to justifying the useless piles of trash that occupy my garage. Let's both hope that we will eventually be able to say "I knew I'd need that one day!"

Hi biomass . Are you newish to hootoo, or just involved in different areas of the site?
Thanks to hootoo's improbabilty drive, I have an infinite capacity storage facility, very useful those darned bottles!

Yes I am new, and I'm not too flash with computers, so I'm just wandering around having a look at peoples personal spaces. So many wizz-bang userspaces that obviously most h2g2 people work with computers or it's their main hobby. I use them under sufferance, but I am enjoying this site because you are all overseas, so it's a little change of pace. Hope to catch you again. Bye.

Where are you, then? How did you come across the site?
I'm in the south east of the UK, about 29 miles south west of London.
I am not a computer by any means, but there are plenty of places on the site to tart up your page, such as
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/Writing-GuideML
There is also a library of pictures somewhere, one of the links here might lead to it:

I'm in Australia, about 45 kilometers northwest of Melbourne. What do you do with yourself over there, anything exciting? I just stumbled upon h2g2 last night when I was visiting the homepage of BBC Worldservice, instead of doing the work that I was supposed to be doing. I would be interested to hear some more about yourself, as that is the reason I registered here, to see what life is like where I am not. Hope to hear from you soon.

There is nothing like hootoo for diverting you from what you should be doing, I have lost hours here!
So what do I do with myself? Well, we returned on Monday from a week's holiday on St Lucia and that is the most exciting thing I have done recently and will probably remain so for a little while yet!
I sort of work from home. We had a computer networks business, it was just getting to the point where we had to expand, when H (He who is rarely seen in daylight) got an offer he couldn't refuse to start a new venture, three years ago now. The new venture is going well, so we wrapped up our company, but it is still registered and holds some finances, so I keep that ticking over just in case we want to start it up again.
I have two sons, 23 and almost 21. No1 son still lives at home, after finishing Uni two years ago. He will be up and off as soon as his student debts allow. No2 son now lives with his g/f and is currently working with H, just starting out as a networks engineer (once he passes the exam).
I have lived mostly in SE England, but Dad was in the Army so we lived in Singapore in the 60s for 3 years and in Berlin in the 70s for another tour of three years, although by then I was eiher away at school, or doing my training in London.
As London is quite close, we go up from time to time for exhibitions, museums and theatre, it is a wonderful city and I still say that even though I lived there for 9 years!
I don't have any relatives in Melbourne, but do have them in Sydney, Perth and Burnie (Tas).
How about you?

My grandfather was from Scunthorpe, but I only know of one surviving relative (in London). I am in my very, very late thirties and I just finished my Bachelor of Science (Biological Sciences) in November, with a double major in Microbiology and Genetics. I was fortunate enough to be offered one of 8 honours positions in the Micro department, so that's what I'm doing now, my honours year in Microbiology. Right now I'm working out how to make my personal space look a bit more flash - pictures, etc. It's fun, but it's 2:20 am here, and my essay is not getting done. Such is life.

It must be around 4.30 there now and you are ~still~ on line!
So you are a mature student, I have great respect for those who return to education later on.
I have done a couple of 9 month courses, one through the Open University on Health and Disease and one through our local uni, Surrey (UniS for short) which was an Introduction to the Humanities. I did both of them for my own interest, rather than any intent to get a degree though.

Yes I am still online, and yes it's 4:35am. I've just been creating my userpage, but I'm finished for the night. I threw in my job of 15 1/2 years to put myself back through high school and now uni. It's been enjoyable, but it's financially crippling. Plus I've just wasted a second night on this thing without doing a scrap of work. Tomorrow had better be a mammoth effort, or else! Hear from you soon, I hope.

Did you physically go to High School, with all the youngsters or did you use distance learning? I can't imagine what it would be like to be back at school!
It's the first day of spring tomorrow and Mother's Day. Just to confirm spring time, cold northerly winds are forecasted for next week . It won't do the spring flowers much good, we have had a fairly mild winter and all the daffodils, crocuses etc were out very early and have taken quite a battering as a result.
H is going to Twickenham this afternoon to watch England v Wales in the 6 Nations, it should be an interesting match for him.

Do to some red tape that I won't go into, I was denied distance education and attended the CAE (Council for Adult Education). However there were a number of under 18's there for different reasons (kicked out of school for drugs was one, taunted because she was a lesbian was another). Oddly enough they were perfectly behaved and mature when tossed in with the oldies. How I would love to go to Twickenham (and Lords, and the old Wembley - as it was). I have, however, been to the Melbourne Cricket Ground many, many times, and due Melbourne being so sports mad, the huge crowds (just over 100,000 before the renovations) provided an atmosphere that every international athelete (and rock star) that has put foot on the MCG's hallowed turf waxes lyrical about. I used to race motorcycles, and once placed 3rd at Phillip Island - the track that almost every Moto GP rider agrees is the best in the world. This may interest H if petrol fumes excite him. Go Wales!
