What an amazing entry! Nature is very bizarre.
I was wondering; I think I read once that homing pidgeons use some sense that perceives magnetic fields to navigate. Is that true? Is it similar to the passive electro-fishies?

Pigeons have magnetic crystals round their head so they know which way is north. This was proved by a scientist that tied a magnet round a pigeons head and the bird got confused. I found this reading a Nasty Nature book.
