So who are you then!
Doug Dastardly Started conversation May 18, 1999
Howdy! I take it from your page here (and your unhealthy interest in Y2K humour) that's your in the computer biz?
So who are you then!
RandomDNA Posted May 18, 1999
Hardly! I hate computers. Well, to a certain extent. No, I just wrote about Y2K because I knew I had plenty of sarcasm to vent in that area.
So who are you then!
Doug Dastardly Posted May 18, 1999
Haha, fair enough! On a mission eh! Nothing wrong with having a go at something that's so absurd! I work with computers... and there are frustrating times when I wish I didn't!
So who are you then!
RandomDNA Posted May 18, 1999
*L* Yeah, I know what you mean! Our computers at work are so messed up, I don't think we'll even notice when Y2K hits! But at least this computer allows me to do e-mail and get on chat rooms, so I'll refrain from smashing it, at least for a while.
So who are you then!
Doug Dastardly Posted May 18, 1999
When they do what you want them to do then you don't mind them doing it! It's when the stubbonly refuse to do anything except bleep at you that you feel like taking a huge brick and making some modifications to the hardware!
So who are you then!
RandomDNA Posted May 18, 1999
*LOL* Definately! I have been known to hit my computer, but I always end up on the short end of the argument. Darned glass on the moniter is pretty thick.
So who are you then!
Doug Dastardly Posted May 18, 1999
In the dealing rooms of London the phones are made of soft rubber so that they bounce off the monitors! Although they still have been known to stand on the desks and put their feet through the toughened glass! Still when you're dealing with all that money... I guess it can get to you.
So who are you then!
RandomDNA Posted May 18, 1999
Yeah, moeny can do that to you...I think I need this one mousepad I saw: it has a red "Bull's-Eye" drawn on it and says "Bang Head Here".
So who are you then!
Doug Dastardly Posted May 18, 1999
We used to have something like that at work - a piece of paper on the wall with a target and the same text "bang head here". At times, you had to queue...
So who are you then!
RandomDNA Posted May 18, 1999
*LOL* Here, we line up to beat the computers. Sometime if the line's too long the people end up beating each other
So who are you then!
Doug Dastardly Posted May 19, 1999
We also used to have a foam rubber brick that looked realistically like a real housebrick that people could borrow to bounce off the computers to ease their tension, of course, that was banned after one too many coffees ended up in the keyboard.
So who are you then!
RandomDNA Posted May 19, 1999
*l* That's pretty funny! Do you ever read the comic strip Dilbert? It's funny; ha lots of stuff sorta like tht.
So who are you then!
Doug Dastardly Posted May 19, 1999
Yeah, I do read Dilbert. It's scary sometimes when you read things in the strip that have actually happened to you! I think that's part of the appeal though.
So who are you then!
RandomDNA Posted May 19, 1999
Yeah, I know! I work for a Dilbertish company: our offical Loss Prevention slogan is "You Are The Key!", complete with a "Key" bulliten board in the break room, with a Skill Of The Month. But get this, we have napkins in the break room, that are printed with the You Are The Key logo! It's really funny!
So who are you then!
Doug Dastardly Posted May 19, 1999
Napkins!? That's going a bit far isn't it! Ever thought they're trying to brainwash you!
So who are you then!
RandomDNA Posted May 20, 1999
Oh, I know they are! How else do you explain the Muzak?
So who are you then!
Doug Dastardly Posted May 20, 1999
You get that? Our office here is all open plan but arranged in groups of 4 (I'm in a group of 2 though) using half height partitions... these little enclosures... you know what they call them? Cells... yes, and it does feel like prison!
So who are you then!
Doug Dastardly Posted May 20, 1999
Well, at least nobody can see me accessing the h2g2 website . I made sure my monitor is not visible to anyone else!
So who are you then!
RandomDNA Posted May 20, 1999
*l* You know eventually the thought Police will catch you though. they caught the guy in "1984", even when he was in a room where the telescreen couldn't see him!
