Hi Researcher 191350, I'm Granny Weatherwax, one of the Assistant Community Editors (ACEs) around here, we're a bunch of volunteers who flit from space to space welcoming beings to the wonderful world of h2g2 - even those from Saffron Walden (only teasing) so;;;;;;;
WELCOME, pull up a comfy chair, kick off whatever makes you feel comfortable & have a or a .
I've pulled together a page of links to places you might want to visit, you can find it at A614747
After you've settled in, if you fancy a chat, or have any questions, feel free to either hit reply, (in 99.9% of cases it doesn't hit back) or click on my name at the top of this posting & leave me a message. There'll be a beer waiting
Catch up with you soon I hope
GW

Hi Corndolly, at last I have access to a PC (albeit temporary) the people I work with haven't yet got round to putting one on my desk, just as well as I would spend most of the time "chatting" I'm still happy with researcher 191350 although I guess I'll have to think of something eventually - I know I'll start a competition - if I provide a few details then other Hitchikers can come up with something - printable please.
I have been trying to contact one of the ACE's via email but no success as yet however I guess perseverance is the answer.
Saffron walden hasn't changed much since I posted my first message, but like most places the sunny weather has put a better perspective on things. I'm off to the pub to put a bet on the Grand National later (now there's an insight to a lifestyle!!!!) but I haven't the faintest idea who will win.
Hope you have fun with the site, I'm still investigating how it all works. If you come up with any ideas as to how I can access sites with hints on writing articles or short stories do let me know. I have been drafting a collection of "humorous" stuff for ages. "Talk" soon I hope.
Hi there...

Hi Granny!
Got "lost"....that is had no access to a PC, lost the web address and could only remember that I was Researcher 191350. But for what? I did try and send you an email however either I got the address wrong (highly likely), my hotmail account is up the swanny (also highly likely) or I had just come back from the pub. However, it was much the same as this message acknowledging your welcome.
I will trawl the site for a while now that I am back so to speak and if I need some help I'll shout!
Hope all is well
Regards
Researcher 191350 (sounds about as boring as Saffron walden!!!)

Hi again, most of the conversation on this site is done by 'posting' ie hitting the reply button. Some of us ACEs do have our own email addresses on our Personal Spaces, but we are all volunteers, using either our own computers or logging on from work/university/school etc and if you email the site direct we won't get them. Is there anything I can help you with?

Hi there...

In answer to your question, I'm not entirely sure, however as I mentioned (I think) in my original posting I am looking for hints on what to do or say on the site - nothing contentious at this stage, but I would like some direction as to what is applicable. I have started a journal, and I suppose as anonymity is pretty well assured (until I get to a meeting somewhere) then I imagine my daily diary pieces are as good as anything - is that OK - I don't actually expect anybody to read them but it's fun to write them regardless and until I get to the stage when I submit something I suppose it doesn't matter too much.
Thanks for replying - I'll have another wander about the site for now
Regards

I'm back again, in answer to your question about content, take a look at A516034. That will give you an idea as to what you can & can't do. One of the most important things to remember is 'No Spitting' Your Journal is certainly a good place to start writing ideas down in, if you have an idea for a Guide Entry, try searching for the subject and if there's not already an Entry then go ahead and write it! If you click on the Contribute button, it's orange & at the top of the page, you'll get more tips. To get involved in some of the weird & wonderful & sometimes serious conversations going on, go to Ask h2g2.
If you'd like to change from a number to a nickname click on the Preferences button, again orange & at the top.
Take it a bit at a time, and you'll soon be posting with the rest of us . After all, if a little old lady like me can manage it....
There are meet ups going on all over the world and you can get more information either from Abi's Community Page or from The Post.
Anything else I can help with, give us a shout, or stop by my page. There's always a waiting.
luv'n'stuff
Granny
