h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

In reference to the getting more audio-visual stuff attached to Entries, is it worth thinking about a new Volunteer scheme that focusses on getting audio or visual material together to go with EG Entries?

I know you Italics are hard pressed enough (you in particular when it comes to getting pics together), so I thought maybe getting those interested in that area of the arts on site would help boost numbers and get more interaction with EG Entries.

I don't know if there are server type issues with amounts of info and all that stuff - my knowledge of all that is comparibale to my knowledge of quantum physics. Maybe Jim Lynn could shed light on the issue?

Anyway, just an idea - floating from me to you.

P.S You seen the Scouts forum, VV had an idea about the Flea Market that I believe has VERY good merit

think its a great idea; but I think we relaly need to get it well organised before trialing/launcing it; in terms of deciding firmly waht guidelines are on what audio can be used/its source/length of audio, and also what format/bit rate we're going to go for etc I guess you'l probablyhave to talk to other Bods there at the Beeb to get the 'corperations' view on what is and what isn't within the Beebs doda

I know one of the main reasons we've had Real Media on the site in the past is simply that's the editing package we had. I'm now trying to get us access to other material.

It might be worth creating a Yahoo Group in time, to allow group members to share assets and create new videos, or edit audio material (swapping MP3s for editing purposes, that kind of thing).

I just hope it gets off the ground, I think it will open up a whole new area for h2g2, and give the site something more.

I'm still so rediculusly excited about this idea... I feel like a young kid at Christmas a Yahoo or simular group for tthe project would be a good idea; helping exchange audio/video files, as no doubt some of us have differnt/more powerful editing tools etc., than others
